(Geekosystem)   Does George Lucas know that the proposed London Britannia Airport blueprint clearly rips off the storm trooper clone factory in Star Wars episode II?   (geekosystem.com) divider line 33

This is so stupid everyone knows hoverboards don't work over water.

Has an injunction been filed?

If not, Lucas must not be aware yet.

No, subby, nobody knows that. Everyone has suppressed all memories of that movie.

Floating on the Estuary of the River Themes,

You don't need Random capitalization when discussing rivers that don't exist.

Also, your blog sucks.

I think the burden of proof is on subby to demonstrate that George Lucas created something original in the prequel trilogy.

Wasn't this drawn by an architect who thinks everything should be on on Thames?

Someday, somewhere, real life buildings will look like their concept drawings. Maybe.

/OK they wont :(

If the Jedi find out about it then they are all doomed.

Don't worry about it.

James Bond will blow it up in the dramatic conclusion to his next movie.

It really is a clone factory disguised as an airport. What does London need with another airport? Planes aren't taking off from any of the airports that it's already got.

George will be getting £4.37 for each passenger who lands or takes off and 10% of the bottled water gross. In addition Jar-Jar will be the official mascot and that warehouse of merchandise will be sold through out the airport.

I don't remember a clone trooper factory at all in The Empire Strikes back...

And I hate to be nitpicky, but even though it was the second movie, it was actually called Episode V...

It doesn't wake you when you want to be woken, it wakes you when you need to be woken.

It's not that hard to do...

Concrete pontoons. The challenge then becomes a matter of depth. If you want to float, you have to displace enough water to make it work. I don't know how deep that estuary is.

As far as paying for it... Heathrow is about 4 square miles of London real estate. Property values from converting it will go a long ways towards footing the bill.

I only know of three Star Wars movies and none of them were titled "episode II"

Add a 2nd runway and a new terminal at Stanstead. That will add capacity for London and the South

Add a 2nd runway and upgrade Manchester to take more long distance flights. Stop everyone in the Midlands and north of England having to go to London to get a long hall flight.

Problems solved.

Nothing really stopping them now, but I agree that Manchester could be upgraded.. They already have flights to Abu Dhabi, North America and the Caribbean (quite a few hubs in there), North Africa ...they could do with a flight or two to Perth or Sydney, maybe. But people doing that long-haul a trip can just change at Singapore anyway.

But can you land a 747 on that? (air force 1 excluded, you probably can land that on one of those)

Wouldn't this proposed airport be farther from the bulk of London's population than Heathrow is now?

/sure it cuts down on the NIMBY tards, but I doubt many would be thrilled with 2 hour trips to the aeroport

Couldn't get past the "River Themes" part without imagining the rest of the article being read by Dick van Dyke in his Mary Poppins accent.

Why float the frigin thing? Just build an island in the same location and then you don't need to worry about heavy surf. There's a reason we don't do it already.

I started watching the clone wars TV series a few days ago. Just finished season 2, it's spectacular -- better than any other star wars thing ever.

Except for the Thrawn trilogy and the Yuuzhan Vong invasion and some other EU stuff. But still, it's astonishingly good for the source material it's based on.

Episode II? Looks more like Manaan from KOTOR.

like if it is gonna cost 80 billion, why not just build it 1000 feet in the air? Or inside a mountain? 80 billion is such a silly number... you could literally build it 30 miles out of town and develop a 200 mph personal transport system to a parking structure in the middle of the city...
