I don't know about all that, but he looked pretty damn good.

just wait until the offensive line breaks down and falls apart like they always do.

That was one hell of a performance.

Let's see - a QB on whom the defense has no real game tape on? Someone who's basically an unknown quantity? Yeah - lots of rooks look good initially and then fail later.

/See Tebow.
//The Mustard and Ketchup team has successfully killed off several QBs lately. I expect much the same.

Hell yeah it was. Plus, it pissed Saints fans off and made every cowboys fan I know get real nervous because most of them had already penciled in a W for those two games.

Give them a break, they've been dealing with an owner who is a raging douchewank, and for the first time in several years there's some light at the end of the tunnel.

I think the 24 combined penalties transcended football......

Nah I'm not really pissed at the Skins. Frankly good for them for being able to claim a victory when they've had a lot of bad years behind them. Saints fans appreciate this.

No, I'm not pissed at the skins but seeing the Saints without a coach (and it was glaringly obvious) just makes me more pissed at the NFL and Goodell. Goodell won that game not G3.

they had alot of crappy seasons. they have what might be a great QB. let them enjoy it and say whst they want. the can call him the second coming of Jesus if that makes them feel better.

Everyone should live in DC for a few years to:

A) Get a good long look at our farktastic governing elite in action.
B) Come to understand that Redskin fans are among the most deranged and sociopathic on the planet.

Delusional or not, he personally whooped the Saints and orchestrated some amazing drives. Unlike Green Bay, the Redskins seem to have a defense, too. Even the white D-Lineman got a sack! That's impressive!

If only there were a sample of similarly situated rookie QBs playing yesterday against whom one could compare RG3's performance...

Russell Wilson (SEA) - 18/34, 153 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT, 62.5 passer rating
Andrew Luck (IND) - 23/45, 309 yds, 1 TD, 3 INT, 52.9 passer rating
Ryan Tannehill (MIA) - 20/36, 219 yds, 0 TD, 3 INT, 39.0 passer rating
Brandon Weeden (CLE) - 12/35, 118 yds, 0 TD, 4 INT, 5.1 passer rating

Since there's no "book" out on these guys yet, I assume they'll all get even worse?

The Pack, much like last year, has no defense, so they have to rely completely on Rogers arm to outscore the opponents. Even Rogers look bewildered at the defense, as if to say: "Don't they know who I am? I'm Aaron 'Farking' Rogers! They aren't allow to intercept me! Coach! Didn't they get the memo?"

And, Venden Bosch is stepping it up, and Jared Allen is a freak. Herm Edwards made so many terrible decisions as the HC of the Chiefs, it's hard to say that dumping Allen was his worst mistake, but it certainly is in the top 3. Two white guys doesn't make an exception to the rule, it makes them two exceptional.

Yeah, throwing 320 yards, 2 tds and 0 ints in your first nfl game ever against a powerhouse team on the road where the home team hasn't lost in 8 games isn't impressive at all. Hell, the redskins fans should have been clamoring for Kirk Cousins or Rex Grossman to be put in the game.

2012-09-10 08:58:53 AM
Mike Wise is a close personal friend of Tiger Woods and vouched for him a few years back, so that should give you an idea of the quality of his judgement.

That said, the Redskins were always the rookie-QB team that had the most complete pieces around him. Heck, Pierre Garcon (88yd TD) went out with an ankle injury in the first quarter and they continued to roll. Anyone who has Morris (96yd, 2TD) is gonna be happy to trade him this week for a quality non-Shanahanigans RB, too.

2012-09-10 09:00:04 AM
Meh, it's Mike Wise. Every column he writes is a desperate plea to be considered for a new Skip Bayliss.

I thought their defense looked excellent in the second half, and they really looked like a bend but don't break in the first. If it wasn't for Akers freak leg, and Rodger's int they would have only given up 20 to one of the best teams in the league. The offence just couldn't get it done and the corner play by San Fran was superb.

Also, Aaron Kampman.

The fact that the Saints can no longer run their Superbowl-winning defensive scheme also is huge.

He did look good out there, but when it comes down to it we were basically outcoached. 12 men on the field during a return punt?? I mean, what the farking hell was that?

We deserved to lose that game, plain and simple. And while the 'Skins farking embarrassed us out there, their fans were uniformly gracious in victory.

Yesterday the Saints couldn't even get off the damn line without flags being thrown. Such a difference a coach makes.. They looked like a college team. Unpolished, rookie mistakes by seasoned players, a defense that looked like they were in game 1 of preseason. fark you goodell.

We have a winner! Mastermind, my ass, that dude just runs RB's into the ground (the average expectancy of a RB under Shanahanahanahan is 3-5 years, he destroys them), and RG3 is his only saving grace. This team will only go as far as he takes them, regardless of Shanahanahanahan.

2012-09-10 09:31:16 AM
Growing up in NJ, in the orbit of NY sports yet not really being a sports fan, I never really understood how
people could get so wrapped up in one team's dramas.

Until I moved to the DC area, and experienced the unconditional love that 'Skins fans have for their
team.

No matter how lousy they are, even a casual 'Skins fan will stand up for their team no matter what.
Even though I'm not a 'Skins fan (I root for the Giants if push comes to shove), I have to admire this
trait.

A team scores 32 points and then cries that it lost because its offense wasn't good enough because it didn't have its head coach? What about that highly-paid defensive coordinator whose sole job is to keep the defense from giving up 40 points?

Wait, why didn't the Saints have a head coach?

Also, the opposing team doesn't come into your house and score at will, if you have a defense (or cheat).

They have an interim head coach while Sean Payton gets rejected by college girls in the Caribbean. It's part of his punishment for the Bounty Scandal. So, it's not really that they don't have a coach, they haev a guy that will coach them for 1 year, then Payton comes back.

RGIII had a good game and for the first time in forever, the Redskins have a big confidence-building win. They still have no depth at all, and an O-line that'll fall apart as soon as it gets a single injury, but the team has something I haven't seen from the Burgundy & gold for 10 years: Hope.

It's week 1, but a win is a win, and the Superdome has been a hard place to get a win the last few years. This Redskins fan is cautiously optimistic for Week 2 against the Rams.

Isn't 4 years the average expectancy of every NFL RB, not just the Shanahan coached ones? I remember that coming up a lot in last year's lockout talk.

Funny you mention that. Growing up in Edmonton, I've never had a "favorite" NFL team. I've always wanted a team to cheer for and thought I'd find one after living in Toronto (Bills), Boston (Patriots), Tampa (Bucs) & LA (Chargers?), but I never could.

Now that I just moved to the DC area and after watching a couple pre-season games, I gotta say that I'm liking this team a lot. RG3 looked so poised in the pocket yesterday.

I guess that makes me 'deranged'??

Go Skins!!

You're pretty much right. The only thing we learned about the rookie QBs yesterday is that RG3 is not likely to be a total bust. There isn't a whole lot else to learn from one game. It's still mostly projection at this point.

I didn't see the other QBs, but Luck played pretty well too. He can make all the throws and moves in the pocket well, which was good for him because he had less time to throw most of the game than Cutler did.

Exactly. Thats why MJD held out for so long this year too. Kind of sucks for them, but this is something coaches and fans have to learn to understand. I like the teams that have learned to operate with two unselfish backs like williams and stewart.

Now we've learned that neither of you are particularly bright. Point of order - more than 5 rookies have started in the history of the game and more than 5 started yesterday.

I realize reading and comprehending is difficult, but do try to keep up.

I thought RGIII looked great yesterday, but my God did the Saints D look clueless...and lets be honest, they had the 28th ranked passing D last year...and they lost people from that squad...they aren't very good on that side of the ball.

The Rams will be a better test (2011 Pass D: 14th) next week...but take nothing away from the kid...in his rookie start he was very, very good.
