Oh Roane County. I'm trying to remember if this is the same family that was in trials for so long about this type of shooting.

Oh I predict this will end badly for these brothers. A few Molotov cocktails served by firelight are in their future I bet.

"Prosecutors were unable to prove who shot first and the brothers were never convicted."

So wtf, were they found "not guilty"? Was the case dismissed? Did prosecutors drop it?

Lookin' for a moonshine still.

Ok, I looked it up and these are the people I thought they were.

Cops raided their property in 2006. Firefight ensured, a couple of cops died. The brothers have fought this thing for years, most recently without a lawyer, alleging widespread conspiracy against them. They've been finally denied a new trial that they demanded on those grounds after fighting the original one for years and now promise to take the original as high as it will go.

They were found guilty, I think, but since they keep appealing, they aren't convinced yet. I'm pretty sure they were found guilty since they keep alleging that the government is out to get them.

I often wonder what endgame, if any, people who shoot at police have in mind. I'll shoot the cop, then they'll leave me alone and I'll just go on about my life? Have these people never seen a single news broadcast in their life?

They were never found guilty in a criminal court, but were found responsible in a civil lawsuit, ala OJ.

* Leon's first trial ended in a hung jury in 2008, and the second ended with him being found not guilty on all charges a year later.

* Rocky's only murder trial ended in 2008 when the jury returned a split verdict. The judge failed to declare a mistrial and an appellate court later ruled he couldn't be tried again.

* They both did time while waiting for the trial(s). Both brothers remained in jail for more than two years before their first trials. Rocky spent four years in jail altogether, waiting for the case to be cleared up in the appeals process. He was free on bond for a while, but was returned to jail for multiple violations of the conditions of the bond.

* This April a jury found the Houstons liable for the death of the ride-along, who was actually a former police officer, and awarded the guy's parents $5.45 million in wrongful-death damages.

They are now alleging that the government is still out to get them, but this time from the other side of the bar. Ol' Rocky has turned prosecutor, based upon a Tennessee law that allows any Tennessee resident to present a case to a grand jury. The Rockster recently called a grand jury to present his tale of public corruption, then failed to show up.

I tend not to allow myself to judge pople before I get to know them. Without ever meeting someone it just isn't right to judge someone from what someone else says about them.
But in this case I think its fairly save to say that these guys are dicks.

i have read dozens of news articles about police shooting and killing unarmed people. all across america. under many different circumstances. unarmed people. homeless people. black people. deaf people. people who don't speak english very well. dozens of people.

if you missed these news articles you can probably Google and read them too.

They have property, in theory, but the reality is that they don't have jackalopes.

From a local newspaper after the civil trial:

"It is doubtful Pat Brown will see much, if any, of that money. Ferguson entered into evidence six deeds for property valued at over $500,000 that apparently is in the names of, or under the control of, the two brothers. Sources say the land is very much encumbered with liens filed against it, including one filed by the attorney who represented Leon in the criminal trial."

I believe what KrispyKritter is saying here, is that American cops do, on occaision yes, but still with rather frightening regularity, shoot/kill the wrong or innocent people, and i believe is thusly insinuating that these TN brothers are innocent.

Although, I am inclined to believe law enforcement on this one, since they live in rural Tennessee and one of them is named Rocky Joe.

Anyone else have a mental image of the Rapists from the movie "a time to kill" when reading this article?

Anybody remember that bomb the cops dropped on the row house in Philly? I think that's what needs to happen here. Just accidentally let it loose late one night and claim that is was a tragic accident. Problem solved, and there's not s cop, judge or jury in the world that would do anything about it.

How wasteful. It would have been far more efficient to shoot a single unarmed, homeless, black and deaf person who spoke broken english and then reprint the story multiple times over a period of years.

I'd vote to convict them if I was on a jury and proof was presented.

I'll also add, the cops here killed a social worker who was standing on her front porch with a gun a few weeks ago. A neighbor had called them because she and her husband were fighting. She never even fired a shot but she's dead none the less. Many think she was having a mental breakdown but we'll never know. They were just cleared of any wrong doing Friday. A terrible story all around and those cops should be in jail. I was wondering what her husband thinks and if he believes the argument was worth it now. Next time you're screaming at your spouse remember this story and what the final outcome could be. Stupid doesn't even begin to cover it.

Too bad it takes 12 people to do that huh? I'd bet that they'd be aquitted.

Personally,I'd vote to shoot them in the goddamn head, but that's just me.

More likely they will have some kind of mysterious vehicle accident. One of those strange, unsolvable crimes involving only the driver's car and an unknown vehicle that vanished into the night.

Quite possibly - but that being the case, and these guys being sociopathic menaces to society are not mutual exclusives.
