Unlike those f*cking seals, which are wastes of space, they eat our fish and will only grow in population as the polar bear population dies off.

Kelp is key in capturing, or sequestering, CO2 from the atmosphere through the process of photosynthesis. According to the study, kelp can absorb as much as 12 times the amount of CO2 from the atmosphere.

Oh, 12 times the amount. Now I understand completely.

Kelp! I need somebody.
Kelp! Not just anybody.
Kelp, you know I need someone, Kelp.

When I was younger, so much younger than today,
I never needed anybody's kelp in any way.
But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured,
Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors abalone.

So, after they add the sea otter coefficient to the computer model for global warming, it will be even more predictive?

Not to get my mathematical knickers in a wad, but this little gem threw me:

According to the study, kelp can absorb as much as 12 times the amount of CO2 from the atmosphere.

12 times the amount of CO2 as compared to what? My pet hermit crab Winston?

I can just see all the English majors around the table going "Ooh, look at the cute photos" while the real details of the story are lost.

This is the University press release:

A new study by two UC Santa Cruz researchers suggest that a thriving sea otter population that keeps sea urchins in check will in turn allow kelp forests to prosper. The spreading kelp can absorb as much as 12 times the amount of CO2 from the atmosphere than if it were subject to ravenous sea urchins, the study finds.

With all these thing we find that slow global warming, its amazing we have any warming left.

SevenizGud: What global warming?

Yes, because of FLUFFY OTTERS.

The researcher and his colleague admitted that increasing the otter population will not help solve the increased levels of CO2 in the atmosphere

We don't know that! We need federal tax breaks for otter breeders! An otter in every garage!

I get that you were there first, but the joke is so good, I have copied it below for the enjoyment of all:

Red meat, white meat, blue meat, meat-o-farking-rama. You will eat it. Because not eating meat is a decision. Eating meat is an instinct! Yeah! And I know what it's about. "I don't want to eat the meat because I love the animals. I love the animals." Hey, I love the animals too. I love my doggy. He's so cute. My fluffy little dog.. He's so cute- There's the problem. We only want to save the cute animals, don't we? Yeah. Why don't we just have animal auditions. Line 'em up one by one and interview them individually. "What are you?" "I'm an otter." "And what do you do?" "I swim around on my back and do cute little human things with my hands." "You're free to go." "And what are you?" "I'm a cow." "Get in the farking truck, ok pal!" "But I'm an animal." "You're a baseball glove! Get on that truck!" "I'm an animal, I have rights!" "Yeah, here's yer farking cousin, get on the farking truck, pal!" We kill the cows to make jackets out of them and then we kill each other for the jackets we made out of the cows.
