The following month, US soldiers inadvertently burned Korans at Bagram, leading to days of protests and targeted killings across Afghanistan.

I predict that those prisoners will be released, escape or be dead within 30 days of the hand over.

Aren't pretty much ALL body searches humiliating?

The Korans were in boxes with other documents that were to be destroyed.

I read that as "burning Koreans", and got really confused and upset for a moment.

The Afghani is the money, the Afghan is the person.

What use would such a loving peaceful group of people have for a secret torture prison built by freedom-loving Americans? Perhaps they'll convert it into a giant flower shop/chocolate factory so as to have things to throw at us as we leave their country after 12 years!

The wrongness of Gitmo applies to Bagram equally or moreso and it's always been mystifying to me that everyone from Obama on down can get away with discussing only Gitmo and think they've covered the topic.

Great idea.... when we did this with Abu Ghirab, the prisoners begged US soldiers not to go, knowing what they were in for.

The Detention facility outside Sather AB in Baghdad has had numerous escapes.

This can ONLY end well...

In related news, 3,000 Taliban fighters and terrorism suspects "escaped" from their cells today.

Oddly, FTA:

"The handover came as it emerged that some Taliban were open to a general ceasefire or political agreement allowing for a continuing US military presence after 2014."

Sure: new theology students will still need target practice.
