The guy in the front row is not taking part in it.

He is too cool for marching band.

Yes, it's stupid when people have fun and you're not involved. Anyone who isn't part of your group and the way your group has fun is clearly touched in the head.

Asshole.

My favorite part of college football season is the wacky marching band hijinks that come out of it. Love it.

At least the girls are easy. Always too fat or way too skinny, but easy.

2012-09-09 11:56:34 PM
Where I went to school all the band chicks were just average looking girls plane girls.. Then by college they exploded into the hottest girls and all the hot high school sluts turned into ugly fat farking messes with kids and Newports.

Instead of electric chairs, we should make electric bleachers. Give 'em all a good reason to scream.

We had to be in the stands, but at least we got to cycle through some of the cadences. My favorite time in the stands was when we would do the cadences in half time just to screw with the cheerleaders.

/All the BS in the stand was worth one season of Indoor
/Almost bought my own marimba at PASIC

Yeah...I've known a few Band Geeks. Quite possibly the most over sexed, over drugged segment of the HS population. (Well, the gay ones at least. We had some good looking ones)

100% this! I'm trying to think if I could remember anyone in the percussion ensemble who didn't have a similar mindset regarding marching band vs winter indoor.

/WGI and SCPA
//However I'm slightly disappointed that WGI now allows recorded sounds.

Well, how the hell else are you supposed to have fun watching a football game?
For serious.

I'm pretty sure I heard a penalty announced by a ref which means there was a football game going on at the time.

Nerds.

I marched Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, Tuba, Sousaphone, and bass drum in the course of my 8 year marching career. I'm surprised I can even stand up straight these days.

Trombone here.

Did the football games, the standing at attention in the hot sun for inspection at Tri-State, the trying to avoid freezing my lips to the mouthpiece in the fall.

Was tenor sax. Then I got smart and became drum major. I was king of the band nerds!

One of my brothers marched sousaphone and tuba. I don't know how y'all do that.

I marched fiberglass sousaphones junior high through the first part of college, then we got shoulder-mounted tubas (concert tubas with an alternate neck for the mouthpiece). I marched a brass sousaphone once. OMFG that thing was heavy. Absolutely gorgeous instrument, and it weight a farking ton.

My brother was the opposite. He marched the shoulder tuba then the school got hand me down brass sousaphones from some other school. Once you knocked the dents out they were nice.

Marching baritone here. The regular baritone, you know, the kind you hugged, and stuck your thumb in the hole. I never saw one of those shoulder mounted things until my son was marching.

I went from a school with the marching baritones to another school that only had the concert one with the curved bell. My senior year, I found a valve trombone buried deep in the instrument room and marched with that instead. That thing made it easy to be loud when needed.

It's not just band geeks...I was at a high school game when I saw the kids we referred to as the "normals" doing it. Of course, these "normals" were completely covered in blue from head to toe.

Glockenspiel to second trumpet here.

We did much wilder, our best prank got the entire band suspended for six months.

yes, band geeks will get this one.
basic outlay: block march turns into random scatter march to turn into picture of the eiffel tower while playing Gershwin's american in pparis.

INSTEAD, we made a shape SIMILAR to to the eiffel tower and started thrusting in and out of the goal posts.

Goddamn, it was freaking legendary.

//look it up, wont say where but Socal in the 70s....
