It's actually a fairly decent list (depending on how you feel about pineapple on pizza), but then they throw in spinach and broccoli and it just all goes to hell.

and the argument would be over if people just concede and accept that Italians are the most advanced species of human on the planet.

hmm. I make my own pizzas, rather often. And, I use Florentine Spinach and cheese sauce an awful lot.
Its delicious. Not as nutritious as using raw, but, i'll give that a go. No thanks on the broccoli though

I love spinach on my pizza. Especially on a good Chicago deep dish. If nothing else, it helps hold that shiat together. But it's also quite delicious. Just wilted a little bit in a pan with a teaspoon of olive oil and a touch of coarse sea salt, and mixed in with the sauce. Great stuff.

Broccoli I've had, but not on a normal pizza. More like a little appetizer thing people make for cookouts. Pizza crust with a cream cheese/sour cream "sauce" and various veggies like broccoli and crumbled cauliflower.

The BEST pizza I ever had was garlic and green olive.

/we won't talk about the goat cheese

FTFA: With about seven grams of fat per three ounce serving

It really bothers me when people mix measurement systems.

You don't dig a spinach on a pizza- than you are foreign to me.

As they demonstrated during WWII.

Also, subby, that headline isn't very tolerant. You might hurt some freakshow's feelings.

Ham, Feta, and spinach are great on a pizza and it helps me justify not having a salad!

Alfredo sauce and spinach pizza is pretty good. Try it sometime.

2012-09-09 07:46:41 AM
One of the best pizzas I've ever had was a bresaola, arugula and brie pizza in Venice. Since bresaola can be hard to find on pizza (and brie on a pizza is still somewhat odd to me), I can settle for prosciutto and arugula, especially if really good buffalo or fior di latte mozzarella is used.

2012-09-09 07:48:21 AM
Better w broccoli and spinach than pineapple. Not much of a p-apple fan....like putting cane syrup on an Odor-Eater

If you cover broccoli in olive oil and then roast it on the top of the pizza, the sugars caramelize, and it turns into awesome deliciousness. It's nothing like steamed broccoli.

2012-09-09 07:53:14 AM
Spinach is a nasty abomination, but i can understand there are some out there who can tolerate it. But Broccoli on pizza? WTF?

Same reason why I love grilling broccoli. And yes, it's good on pizza IMHO.

Pepperoni sausage ham, bacon.

That Is all.

Fresh pineapple, sliced in reasonable size bits with ham makes a good pizza, especially on a white pizza. But pineapple from a can? Forget that crap.

Pizza has apparently turned gayer than Jim J Bullock blowing Sheldon Cooper in a jacuzzi full of aids.

The pizza joint I worked at in college had a stuffed mushroom pizza that used a mozzarella/spinach/nutmeg mix. While I generally hate spinach and nutmeg, that stuffed pie was tasty as hell.

US pizzas fail.

Go to a Rome street vendor. They'll have broccoli, spinach and just about anything else.

Go on, then.

Probably doesn't rank as a nutritional pizza topping but when we make pizza at home, one of the toppings is celery sliced thin. Tasty.

Wanna have fun? Ask your local pizza place for a pie with celery as one of the toppings.

/Unlike most people, I HATE pepperoni. Too greasy

What? No lame 80's joke about anchovies on the pizza?

2012-09-09 08:04:48 AM
Ham and Pineapple is often called Hawaiian Pizza and is pretty good.

Of course parmesan, garlic, extra sauce, and mushrooms are pretty standard Pizza fair. A lot of the mozzerella used is a already low fat.

You're right about brocolli, never had it, probably won't try.

Spinach (FRESH) actually doesn't make a bad pizza topping, especially when combined with pine nuts.

I'm surprised anchovies didn't make the list.

Pineapple? STFU and GTFO.

Oh, also, spinach and goat cheese pizza. Try it.

Spinach lightly sauteed in garlic butter is an awesome topping on a white pizza. Add marinated artichoke hearts, cooked chicken and red onion and you have a great pizza. Yum!

I like to start with a crust made from wonder bread, top it with ketchup, cheese whiz, cubes of spam, and chopped up slim jims. Cook it right in the microwave. Delicious.

I second that -- broccoli is one of my very favorite ingredients on pizza because it bakes into crispy little flowers, even without the olive oil. I sometimes even buy a cheap frozen pizza and put broccoli and chopped walnuts on it... YUM.

Farkin' pussies, with your "Ewwww! vegetables!" You can also put sliced zucchini on that shiat, it even looks like veggie pepperoni.

Don't get me started. SALT has been proven NOT to be bad for most of the population (and is essential for life).

Missing from the list:

Sun-dried tomatoes.

Visual appeal is not their strength. Out of the jar of olive oil, they look slimy. Cooked, they look like red raisins.

But the taste ... if I ever go vegetarian, this would be my pepperoni substitute. It's weirdly the same to me. Chewy and flavorful. They are that good.

/Weird toppings I've seen btw: Cashews in Riverside County, CA, and apple slices in a fancy pizza joint in Nashville.

I found a recipe where you make the crust from shredded and cooked cauliflour mixed with cheese. Toppings include broccoli, carrot, and as many different meats as I have on hand, topped with more mozza and cheddar. And hey, it's even gluten free.

You know, it's really sad that no one has ever showed most people how good vegetables can be. Most people eat tomatoes from Chile that have the same taste as cardboard, peas from a can, frozen broccoli steamed until all the flavor has been destroyed.

If we could get good home ec in this country that would teach people how to cook grilled eggplant in feta mint sauce in the time it takes you to make Kraft Mac and Cheese, maybe we could start to put a dent in the obesity and diabetes epidemics.

Instead of "eat vegetables because their farking delicious," it's eat them like their cough medicine you should choke down because it's good for you.

2012-09-09 08:21:44 AM
The only veggies that make it on top of my pizza are onions and green peppers. Broccoli needs to stay as far away from it as possible and I've always hated mushrooms.

2012-09-09 08:26:14 AM
Take one cup of sour cream, mix in 3 tablespoons of Dijon mustard, 2 tablespoons of finely chopped spinach that has been sautéed in olive oil, use that instead of the usual tomato based sauce, you will love it

OK farmers. Try this.

Pizza crust. Homemade, boboli, whatever
Brush with olive oil
Fresh minced garlic
Fresh chopped Basil
Artichoke hearts, quartered
Spinach, fresh
Chicken
Feta cheese
Mozzarella

That's disgusting. Wonder bread? And where are your generic sour cream and onion potato chips?

2012-09-09 08:33:02 AM
Ham, mushroom, artichokes and olives
Eggplant, sun-dried tomatoes and red peppers
Spinach, feta and pine-nuts
Gorgonzola, rocket and walnuts
Cheese, cheese, cheese and spam
Spam, spam, spam and spam

One of the things that's always annoyed me is the treatment they get in restaurants. The chef spends all day preparing some meat dish that needs an entire paragraph to describe and then throws a scoop of Sysco mixed veggies on the side.

I never tried broccoli but spinach is delicious on pizza. It goes on lasagna after all all, is it really that strange to put it on pizza?

the weirdest topping I ever saw was from a street vendor in Tahiti. There was a egg cracked into the middle of the pizza just before serving. the heat of the pizza cooks it slightly.

Fresh pineapple on pizza is the best. Canned pineapple (canned anything really) is farking lame
