Republicans: hateful, unlikeable, AND they want to trash the social safety net and raise taxes on the middle class to benefit billionaires.

Whats not to love?

Seriously, where the fark did Joe Biden come from? He's like some sort of megabot of awesome qualifications. If you told me there was a politician with just one of his major traits I'd go 'he sounds like a cool guy.' Then you pile them all together and you have this grandfatherly figure who's suffered amazing personal tragedy, worked his ass off, rode the train to work with a lunch pail, is the father to a soldier, and who also speaks really well in public with this wonderfully genuine ability to slip up. Even when he makes mistakes, it's this really reasonable, relatable kind of mistake. It's not like Romney not being able to identify a donut, it's a sort of 'Oh shiat, I can imagine farking up like that.'

Hopefully there will still be enough time after the election for the parties to find common ground on spending cuts.

Meanwhile Joe Biden will continue reciting his scripted lines and occasionally shiatting his depends.

Isn't it awesome that the Dems can make that type of challenge. Republicans know that they can't even begin to make that statement. Republicans, or at least Independents should really take notice that only one party is daring enough to tell the press to fact check them and that the other is stating, :"We won't let our campaign be determined by fact checkers." It is a very telling sign.

I voted for him in the primary, but since he's been VP, it's been a non-stop train to awesome-ville. I like how many republicans refuse to realize this.

It's like they've really bought into the Rovian trick of using your own weaknesses against your opponent: "hey, we've got terrible VP' s (Quayle,Cheney, Palin) so they must have them too. Why can't you see this?"

True, but shameful. In a right wingers world, up is down, left is right and no means yes.
Some right wingers are going around calling Obama a socialist and are acting like their pants are on fire, yet they are at the lowest tax rate that they have probably even been. Then they scream about a deficit, but don't want to raise taxes. They know that trickle down doesn't work yet they double down on trickle down (borrowed that phrase). They scream about Sharia law while simultaneously trying to brintog about Christian law. They force you to have a baby (by trying to limit abortion), but want to take away the safety nets meant for people who are struggling. They claim they are not racists, but have racist undertones in a lot of their rhetoric. They scream for a birth certificate (no other President has ever had to show a birth certificate), while saying that we don't need Mitt Romney's tax returns. They can't attract minority voters. They try to restrict voting (especially in minority heavy districts) and call it reform. The list goes on and on. I don't see any advantage for any American making under $250,000 per year to vote for Romney.

Sir, I see your tired trolling accusation and raise you a Why do your handlers let you near the keys unattended/10. Since Joe's been gaffeing 24/7, that means in this past week you should be able to provide for me 168 examples in the past week. SInce you're not being literal, of course, we'll tighten that down to a much more reasonable one. You have nothing to say here, nothing worth hearing, and know that as you pass into the great darkness that lies beyond this vale, the whole world will be no richer for your presence. Thank whatever deities in which you believe for the helplessness and pointlessness of all human endeavour, for without the eventual equalising aspect of oblivion, you might one day have to look back on your work in this thread and admit to yourself, "oh, shiat, I actually said that as if I thought I had a point..."

Oh, believe me, the thought has crossed my mind several times. Brand it correctly, and frozen custard could be the trendiest dessert out here for a few years. Froyo has the advantage of seeming healthy, since it's low in fat, so frozen custard would have to play up the "indulgence" angle. It's rich, and it'll never be healthy, but play it up as a foodie experience, and people out here will go for it.

Unfortunately, I'm a grad student with no start-up capital.

Cuz they aren't searching for information. They are waiting to see what they should be outraged about. If you present them with facts that don't line up with what they have been told, they discount it by calling it part of the "librul media." Yes. Because in their mind, Ryan will be the victor to them because the questions were too biased or some other BS like that.

When in reality it's just Paul Ryan complaining about not getting things his way and then having to resort to lying to make his point.

Sorry for the harsh generalization of Ryan but this is my impression of him.

The "Romney Ryan plan would make Medicare go broke sooner" claim?

The non-partisan factcheck.org found that to be an exaggeration; while repeal of ACA would mean the earlier exhaustion of the part of Medicare that covers hospitals, the fund would still collect payroll taxes to cover the vast majority of hospital bills.

Oh, FFS. So yes, the plan that Ryan and Romney have both described as "protecting and preserving" Medicare would "exhaust" funds for Medicare "earlier" but because money would still be rolling in via payroll taxes it wouldn't technically "go broke"?

It's "End Medicare as we know it" all over again, isn't it?

Yeesh.

Meh, the important takeaways from this article are A) Biden rawks B) Ice Cream is delicious and C) The GOP work in lies, half truths, distortions and sins of omission the way painters work in oil and watercolor.

It is their medium.

/And it's rarely well done.

Very nice, Forty-Two. I anchored there near the wharf once while delivering a boat northbound to Santa Cruz. It is a lovely town and I hope you enjoy your time there. A good friend's brother did his undergrad there.
There is good food to be had in Santa Barbara, even if you have to sift through an overabundance of froyo shops.
Here's a little known fact: In the 80's CA state law required every video rental store that stocked adult tapes to have a frozen yogurt shop within 100' of the establishment.

Of course, as we saw after the DNC, "fact checking" of the left includes somehow saying that Clinton can't point out when someone is lying because he got caught lying, so I'm not sure if this will work out in Biden's favor. They could pull ANYTHING out of their asses, and claim that it's fact checking.

Archer, as in Sterling? That gives Ryan way too much credit. He could be Zapp, but that's as far as I'm willing to go.

I don't know. Archer is funny as hell, but he's also a terrible secret agent, he's narcissistic, has mommy issues, anger management issues, and is an alcoholic. You're mainly laughing at him, not with him.

Archers' still a fleet captain...

This one is easy, Ryan = the captain of that TNG race that needs things "to make them go". I Call em the count to potato race, cause I can't remember their name.

The Pakleds.
"We are smart"

To be honest, I liked that race, because it showed -- starkly -- how humans must appear to the Q. No one can know everything. We usually see humans from the standpoint of godlike to the natives, or on an even par, or on the cusp of greatness. We hardly ever see humans from the standpoint of Ascended types -- on any sci-fi show-- unless it's to show that humans are just as good as they are. That's not true, though.

That race is out in space in spite of not creating many of the wonders it uses, because it's learned to adapt those wonders to their own needs. They didn't have to create it, just use it without getting themselves blown up.

How come we never saw them again?

Republicans, or at least Independents should really take notice that only one party is daring enough to tell the press to fact check them and that the other is stating, :"We won't let our campaign be determined by fact checkers." It is a very telling sign.

Oh, they can make that challenge all they want. Their defense is to call the facts themselves "biased". It doesn't mean that it's a valid defense, just that they can actually make the challenge.

FirstNationalBastard: So, when Biden eviscerates Ryan in the VP debate, are the Republican concern trolls still going to be carrying on with the "Biden should have been dumped, he's a liability and TEH DUMBZ!" groupthink?

No. When they lose and lose decisively, Republicans go into Martyr Mode. It's the reason that Biden didn't go after Palin too badly in their debate; he had to sit back and let her make a fool of herself, because if he went on the attack the dominant story would be that he's a bully.

I'm genuinely not sure if they'd do the same for Ryan. I mean, he's supposed to be the tough smart guy willing to tell Hard TruthsTM, so they'd look dumb trying to play the victim. But the GOP is able to get away with so much counterintuitive crap that I think they'd try it anyway. Joe will become the big bad meanie who won't let Ryan tell his Hard Truths, until the debate goes down the memory hole. Then he'll go back to being a dumb liability.
