eh, I said last week that picking on this year's Red Sox isn't even fun anymore, though it'll be interesting to see if they have enough pride to at least not finish last.

As a Red Sox fan, I've basically been rooting against them.

I can only imagine what the late 80s-early 90s would have been like on Fark, in the glory days of Mike Pagliarulo, Lee Guetterman and Dave LaPoint. It would have been wall-to-wall YANKEES SUCK headlines, with every other Yankee fan posting "1918." to explain why Steinbrenner was ruining the team by being a moron.

\seriously, though, Yankees fans, we don't care. But if this distracts you from the Yankees having trouble fighting off the Orioles, more power to ya.

2012-09-08 02:27:17 PM
Good. They're one of the few teams I actively root against, and 99% of that is due to their fans.

Also on the list: Yanks, Notre Dame, anything from Pittsburgh or Chicago.

Yeah, I was really surprised not to see a thread about that on Fark. I'm glad that the guy is alert and responding well, but he'll probably end up like Tony C. He'll come back next season and his performance will drop significantly, then he'll have health problems the rest of his life.

Considering the disaster this season has been, I'm surprised they're only 13 games under .500 at this point. This is an ownership issue, as not only do the Sox suck, but the Liverpool soccer team they own sucks as well and the owners (I think it was Henry) wrote an open letter apologizing to their fans. They need to write a letter to Sox fans as well.

And if you disagree with me, I'll punch you in the mouth.

The problem is throughout the organization at this point. The coaching staff isn't keeping up their end either. There is no excuse for the across-the-board suckfest that the pitching has been. Lester, Buccholz, and (while he was on the team) Beckett should all be performing much better than they have this year. Sure, I'd expect any one of them (mostly Beckett) to hit a slump now and then, but the total collapse of the starting rotation and the bullpen this season is evidence of a coaching problem.

Meh, I don't think any pre-2004 fans are crying over this season. It's more of a regression to the norm. Boston has always been a team which is fun to root for when they're doing well, and then fun to watch how amazing well they could collapse in August and September. Otherwise, you'd just go insane.

If this season helps unload some of the pink-hats from the fanbase for a few years, it might be worth it.

Yep, it didnt bode well from the start that lucchino overrode cherington on the manager pick. I lay this entirely on the ownership and the flunkies they cherrypicked.

Just look at the boys and the raiders when u get ownership mesing with staff selection.

After both the Braves and Red Sox collapsed after last season, I do recall several in the media criticizing the Braves for not making any significant changes to their roster. The Red Sox, of course, made a few significant changes.

Seems as though the Braves may have chosen wisely by staying the course. (Although, I still am not thrilled with Gonzales as the manager.)

His twitter feed is amazing. He manages to go back & forth between "I don't care what you people think" and "Waah why does everyone hate me?" so fast I'm amazed he doesn't have whiplash.

As I write this, there are seven teams in MLB with worse winning percentages, and one with an equal one.
Red Sox .453
Blue Jays .453
Royals .449
Marlins .446
Indians .428
Rockies .409
Twins .406
Cubs .377
Astros .312

The Red Sox also have the money to improve themselves, and have won two of the last eight World Series. While being bummed and disappointed in this season is a normal and fair way to feel for Red Sox fans, it sure as hell isn't the end of the world. Calm the fark down.

I love these two:

"I didnt send any video to anyone. Also,my tweet were in response to her saying shed "come to people houses & f'n murder them"

"@Mrs_McCarthy32 was threatening to come to my house and kill me "allegedly". So I told that biatch what id do if she came to my house."

So........ he tries to say that she's "threatening" him even though he didn't send the video, and her tweet was clearly directed at whoever did tweet her the video?

I'm fairly sure he DID send the video, but just deleted the tweet later on.

I like when he INSISTS his name is in his twitter profile. When someone points out that it's not, he says he'll change that "soon."

Uh huh.

I see that now. What's funny is that most Boston fans moved along from the Sox months ago.

Most people will chant the "you only care when they win" BS...that's crap. This is a completely unlikeable team, with owners who let their early success go to their heads that they can abuse and exploit the fanbase.

I can't wait till the Pats start tomorrow, and hopefully someone ritually executes Gary Buttman so the Bruins can hurry up and start.

For that you can thank the Dodgers. I can't believe they freed the Sox of all that payroll. That would have hampered the team for the next few years. Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington deserves a raise for dumping that salary.

Red Sox already down 4-0 to Jays. A loss would give the Sox sole possession of last.

And they would be right. The majority of Boston fans are showing their true colors this year.

I stuck with the bad Yankees in the 80's even through 86 when the worst of all possible World Series (for a Yankee) fan occured. I still watch Dolphins games and root for the team, even though they are the ass of the NFL.

Thursday I was on a conference call with some folks in Boston and they all proudly declared they are not fans of "this years Red Sox...they are so unlikeable...".

That is the definition of a fair weather fan.

Sorry.

You are correct. For the record, I am a Cardinal fan, not Red Sox fan. While Gonzalez and Crawford could still have been great players for the Sox, the whole team needs rebuilt. The clubhouse was too toxic and the fans too disgruntled.

It's not overrated this year, where a Wild Card win means you can be one-and-done in the postseason.

The Marlins are the only team on that list with a payroll in the top ten, the Red Sox are number 3, and my Padres have the lowest payroll and they are two games closer to .500. So yeah, it's kind of a big deal when you suck more than a team with a payroll that is 120 mil lower than yours.

To be fair, Boston realized a couple weeks ago what that overinflated payroll was netting them and corrected it.

To be fair that still leaves them at 40 mil higher than the Nationals, Beckett won them 89 games, Gonzalez hit around .320 with over 200 RBI in 2 years, and Crawford sucked.

Oh, I love the "I stuck with the bad Yankees" bullshiat. This is the same fanbase that loves to brag about their 27 rings, right?

There are plenty of Red Sox fans who have a reason to hate this team. It has nothing to do with the losing as much as it has to do with farking over Tito, and the BS that came with it.

I followed the Sox for many, many years before '04...and this team is a farking disgrace.

Exactly what I'm thinking. I grew up in Maine an have suffered through decades of Red Sox late-season collapses. I live in Virginia now. I see more Red Sox caps here in Norfolk than I do when I'm in Portland.

I'll often ask with a smile, "Hey, you from New England?". Rarely is the answer yes.

Except it's not BS...there are lots of of "Louisiana who?" Yankee fans but I'm not one; also see Miami, Dolphins. I still curse Tom Olividotti for losing games where Marino put up 400 yards. I'm still a fan after Wannestadt drove Williams into (his first) retirement, and all the other stupid, stupid shiat Huizenga, Parcells and now Ross do to that team. On game day I want them to win.

It has nothing to do with the losing as much as it has to do with farking over Tito, and the BS that came with it.

I think it has a lot to do with losing. When they farked Nomar over, nobody cried because subsequently the Sox won two series so all was forgiven. They farked Tito over, but forgot the missing ingredient this time. I hope they improve becase this rivalry isn't very fun anymore.
