What would the country look like after four years of these guys?

Sgygus: What would the country look like after four years of these guys?

Well, there are some things we'd need to know before that can be answered accurately.

For starters, how would you describe your community in terms of its gatedness?

Why even lie about something as
inconsequential as this? Do they think anyone with half a brain is going to believe this is something the audience was able to organize and pull off on their own?
This is how stupid they think we are, America.

At this point If they said the sky was blue, you'd have to go outside to make sure.
They seem unable to not lie... Is this one or any of hundreds of others consequential? Individually, maybe not so much, but together create a pretty disturbing pattern.

well, the economy is going to improve, no matter who's president. but if it's romney, the super-wealthy will become super-mega-wealthy like they were 100 years ago, and we'll be on our way to a second great depression - one that will make the bush recession seem like a walk in the park. of course romney will be out of office by then and some poor democrat will be stuck trying to clean up the mess, just like now.

Maybe people who know a bit more about politics can answer this one for me, but would it be political suicide for Obama to just flat-out call Romney/Ryan liars? I ask, because in the thread for Day 2 of the DNC when Clinton was speaking, several of y'all expressed discontent with him calling their comments about Medicare/welfare "untruths", and that you wanted him to say they were lying.

I'm just wondering how it would go over during one of the debates if Obama said, "Gov. Romney said I would do X. Gov. Romney is lying", or something to that effect.

Not sure, but I keep wondering if Obama's going to do just that. I mean, debates are hard to script and sometimes you just say what you're thinking. Maybe he will call Romney a liar and Joe will lay down another couple of f-bombs. Oh I cannot WAIT for the debates!

Liars on specific things? I don't think there would be negative repercussions. Liars in general terms? Oh, there would probably be some hate thrown their way.

Watching any tape on Romney proves that he cannot handle being challenged at all. He gets defensive and argumentative at the drop of a hat if he thinks you're trying to catch him in a lie. Expect Obama to rhetorically poke him over and over again while saying "I'm not touching you, I'm not touching you," until Romney lets loose his self-righteous, entitled side, and something idiotic slips out of his mouth, like calling Obama the HNIC.

The sad thing is, even if Romney slipped and called him the n-word, that wouldn't ruin his popularity with "the base", the exact opposite would happen. It would make him MORE popular with them.

Can anyone here hack into Mittbot3000's OS and insert a code or something that causes him to do it? Because if that's what it would take to finally drive the crazies out of the party, well.....Romney should fall on his sword, here.

You're assuming that the GOP has any long-term or even medium-term plans other than "put the 'White' back in White House" and "hasten the second coming of Jesus." If they think it'll help them in the presidential election, every GOP pundit will be dropping n-bombs from now until November 6 as if it was going out of style, any effects on down-ticket races or future electability be damned.

I suppose a fitting analogy would be a corporation with no long-term plans beyond "maximize this quarter's profits at all costs."

At this point, it's a newsflash when the Romney campaign tells the truth about something. Seriously, even among politicians, Mitt Romney is the least honest man I've ever seen.

2012-09-08 01:03:13 PM
Why the hell would you lie about that? I don't even see what you could gain from that lie. Also, what is there to lose if people thought it was organized by the event staffers? It was a fun thing that got people in the audience to participate, why tarnish that?

2012-09-08 01:03:54 PM
Wow. Way to take something out of context there, bud.

It wasn't a lie. Nobody said that the crowd displaying Mitt's name just decided to do it spontaneously.
Don't want to be a part of the display? Don't sit there. And yes, the crowd in that section *was*
organizing itself in order to get the name display - which they voluntarily agreed to participate in -
looking right.

/ sigh.

Their candidate has always been Generic Republican. Mitt Romney is simply the closest they could get to that goal. The strategy seems to be "come close, and lie about the details". It's like sculpting a statue. All of the framework and underpinnings are identical whether you are building a statue of Winston Churchill or Bozo the Clown. The unique identifying features are only added at the very end. Except in this case, the unique identifying features are the lies about damn near everything.

Reminds me of the Truman quote:
'Richard Nixon is a no-good lying bastard. He can lie out of both sides of his mouth at the same time and if he ever caught himself telling the truth, he'd lie just to keep his hand in.'
