So Ma & Pa are back together? At least enough to gang up on their daughter. hunh.
Well if nothing else, this might qualify as grounds for that parental divorce we were all suggesting a couple of weeks ago.

fta: The parents' lawsuit seeks more than $25,000 each in compensatory and punitive damages.

I hope the judge orders each parent to pay $25, 000 to their daughter for being selfish, bullying, and cheap. Then, I hope the judge fines each parent an additional $25,000 dollars for wasting the courts time.

Some pretty weak sauce legally unless the kid got real specific as to "cheating".

The Ohio parents of Olympic gold medalist Tianna Madison have sued her, saying she spread stories they had been selfish and bullying and cheated her financially.

Elyria residents Robert and Jo Ann Madison filed the libel, slander and defamation lawsuit Thursday in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court in Cleveland. They say they've been loving, supportive and generous parents.

Tianna Madison was on the winning 4x100-meter relay track team at the Summer Olympics in London. She won the gold with Allyson Felix, Bianca Knight and Carmelita Jeter in world-record time. The lawsuit also names her husband, John Bartoletta.

The Tampa, Fla., couple

Well, which is it, Florida or Ohio? And if it's both, how in hell is this not about the Special Olympics?

What a little biatch. If not for her parents' constant obsessive hovering, borderline-abusive pushiness, and overall Tiger-Mothering her from the day she learned to walk, she would never have been able to experience the brief flash of fame and modest cash reward that came with winning an olympic gold medal in an event no one really gives half a shiat about.

Oops, never mind. Never occurred to me the kid wasn't a kid.

I bet my parents are glad that the greatest achievement I've had in the last few years was going to the bar with a The Jake thread open last season.

If you don't have a family who do you end up blaming for your neurosis?

Freudian slippage is my guess.

Well looks like the daughter will have an easy time proving she was telling the truth.

It seems by definition you cannot win a lawsuit in which you sue your child for calling you a bad parent.

Daughter's in Florida.
Parents are in Lorain County (Elyria).
Suit in Cuyahoga County. Why didn't they just file it in the U.K. where libel/slander laws are much broader?

And for $25,000? The lawyers will get 200% of that.

I noticed this too. Don't know the specifics, of course, but if it gets removed to a different venue I'd not be surprised. That'd be the first motion I'd file, after the usual 12(b)6 and all that.

And I would probably not take this case without a big retainer. Only the foolish or desperate would take a case like this on contingency.

Yeah, but there are enough of them out there.

I think this is a case of "sue for an amount where its cheaper for the accused to settle, even if they're going to win."

I expect because the truth is a valid defence against slander/libel and British Judges can award costs against the parents.
