If Goodell didn't have the goods on the players than he deserved to get proper farked. Coaches are still suspended though, right?

Interesting bit from nfl.com

While the suspensions are vacated immediately, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell can go back and suspend the players if he proves there was an intent to injure.

I find it amusing you're totally ok trying to end someone's career. But If I go around breaking a construction workers arm, suddenly it's assault with a deadly weapon.

I'll just smile and nod and pretend to understand what is happening.

Maybe someone can explain why this is news flash worthy to someone who doesn't know anything about football other than the fact it involves men in colorful tights?

So goes the circle of life, these same players will be suing the nfl once their money runs out due to injuries sustained from being forced to participate in bounty programs...

I am not a Saints fan. I like the Saints. I love Drew Brees, and have rooted for him to succeed since before the Eli/Rivers debacle. That said, the punishments doled out were much deserved. Whether they were contractually available to the league to dole out under the existing CBA is an entirely different question.

I'm wondering the same thing. TFA doesn't mention coaches.

Its not the suspensions that will give them fits, its the refs and since the NFL pretty much controls them with the scrubs right now he first game will be interesting.

And isn't Vilma still unsigned? Who would sign him at this late date?

2012-09-07 04:04:44 PM
I guess they'll have to stop screwing around and charge the players with assault then.

2012-09-07 04:04:46 PM
Nice headline.

Goodell's got to be pissed at this; what over the top response will he whip out in retaliation?

ddam: Coaches are still suspended though, right?

Yup.

Good luck with that. If he had that, he would have rolled it out before now. Basically, Goodell used these four players to try to establish, for purposes of the oncoming concussion lawsuits, that the NFL cleaned up its act. These guys were hung out to dry to try to save the NFL $ in future lawsuits.

Suck it, Goodell, and all those who fell for the NFL line.

Just stop trying to legislate out the violent hits and intent to injure. Football will always be dangerous, players now know what they signed up for.

If the courts and arbitrators won't let the league police the violence then just make money off of it. This does not seem like a difficult decision.

I'm not. It didn't happen. You just believed the NFL party line. Not my fault you're insufficiently cynical.

Giants maybe. Wasn't Blackburn on the sidelines injured at the end of the game on Wednesday? or was it only cramps?

Seems to me that this is a win for the NFL, hey they tried to protect players from themselves but were ruled against, so now the players shouldn't be able to sue the NFL for not being able to protect them from themselves...
