My opinion (And I don't greenlight shiat or have any say in it) is that this is how it should be.  How insanly boring would the politics tab be if 90% of the group agreed with what was being posted.  Fark could easily turn into something terrible like the Democratic Underground or Free Republic.  I started coming to Fark all those years ago because it linked to things that challenged me and pissed me off a little. Then you come into the threads and there are people from both sides arguing about it.

This is why I enjoy the FARK politics tab. You hear ever argument and counter-argument out there on almost every topic. That way, when presented with the argument in real life you have already given a lot of thought to the subject matter and made an informed decisions.

There have been more then a few times I have eviscerated my friends at political debate simply from thinking about the things I've read here on FARK. It's especially satisfying to see the people who only know the talking points that are given to them from major news outlets.

Friend1 : " I watch mainly Fox News."
Friend 2: "You're so lame. I watch a lot of ABC, NBC, CBS. Sometimes I even catch the BBC"
Friend 1: "That's all liberal spin. No wonder you're wrong so much."
Friend 2: "Whatever. Everyone knows Fox News is stupid."
Friend 1 & 2 look over at me and ask what I watch

Me: " I read the Internet."

I've said it before, and I'll say it again; today the Republican Party is full of "first-rate second-rate men."

When I was running things I would have ravaged Obama. We knew how to dig dirt in my day. We got the goods, or planted the evidence, and we attacked, attacked, attacked!

It's just a damn good thing I'm dead. You wouldn't want me at what passes for the Republican National Convention these days. Nossir!

I would have had them SCREAMING! People would've been vomiting and stampeding. Mitt? Who is this clown? He can't even do sound-bites right. Hell, I'd vote for Obama too. At least he's got some salt!

True, but also the Admins seem to be throwing out greenlights to bald faced ridiculousness from the right side of the aisle. While that may make most of us tear our hair out, what everyone is doing is essentially the internet equivalent of rubbernecking on the highway as you pass an accident. The left leaning articles generally don't generate the same type of ire, and therefore are much more boring threads, but everyone passes the Right-wing threads hoping to see a decapitation or a VW Beetle smashed between two semis.

Greenlight a "commie" link and it gets maybe a hundred, maybe two hundred, comments before getting ingloriously buried. Greenlight a "fascist" link and it ends up getting 300-500 comments easy.

Especially when you get one of the local, proud, "special" few to lay out a Hershey Highway Greyhound or two in the thread and leave skid marks on their way out. That's usually worth a couple hundred or so comments more as 10-15 farklibs at a time fall over each other like Internet Keystone Cops bearing links, graphs, citations, counterarguments, corrections and fact-checking.

It's a win-win, symbiotic relationship.

The reason there is a lack of conservatives and republicans on this site is because they don't like to see views that are not their own. Heavily skewing for their benefit keeps the few "conservatives" we've got to argue with. If you don't treat them with kid gloves and favoritism the start trying to nail themselves to crosses while crying about the liberal media conspiracy.

Yeah, fark used to be great for political debate back in the day... back before the GOP shat the bed and started smearing themselves in their own feces while screaming "crazy?!?!?! crazy?!?!?! you think I'm crazy?!?!?! I'll show you crazy?!?!?!?"

And the conservative hoi polloi for some reason decided they had no choice but play along.

Torture really seems to be the continental divide whereupon conservatives and the GOP just went stark raving and never returned.

I'd like to think it was the result of some mind-crushing shame... like having gotten drunk and farked a dog, they could never come to terms with themselves after that and just spiraled down into madness.

But, I think it was really just that that was the point that both the party and the base had the ultimate id-unleashing co-realization that they were capable of absolutely anything.

Kinda like the point in "Casualties of War" at which Sean Penn and his pals conclude "well shiat... what the hell... why shouldn't we fark her?"

I think some people don't want to see right wing articles at all, even to mock them.  It's the same urge that causes folks to announce that they refuse to click on and read an article.  You may as well deny the ocean a single tear for all it matters.

Where it comes down to is that a lot of right wing articles tend to be light on the facts. There are some news-worthy articles to come from right wing sources, but the majority that get posted (and often greened) to fark are articles that are either misinformed at best, and at worse, outright lies.

Not suprising though. With a disproportionate number of rabid liberals ready to post madly at any provocation, Greenlighting right-leaning articles gives them plenty of material to scream against, and that means more clicks, which means more ads, which means more revenue which means more beer for Drew.

sigdiamond2000: James!: My opinion (And I don't greenlight shiat or have any say in it)

Wait, so you're saying mods don't greenlight headlines?

Then who does? Some magical robot?

Sorry, don't buy it. Refuse to accept it.

I am going to redlight your face.

sigdiamond2000: James!: If the source is concervative and the headline is mocking it do you consider that republican?

A lot of people do for some baffling reason I've never been able to figure out.

I think some people don't want to see right wing articles at all, even to mock them.  It's the same urge that causes folks to announce that they refuse to click on and read an article.  You may as well deny the ocean a single tear for all it matters.

vernonFL: My problem is that the "right" links are ridiculously insane, from Breitbart to Townhall to WND, etc...

I wish there were more intelligent conservative writers, but the fact that there aren't isn't Fark's fault.

Remember: on the political discourse continuum, the opposite of Right Wing Ire is Left Wing Humor. The right wing writers see something and they get angry; the left wing writers see something and they laugh.

Elandriel: James!: concervative

Is this related to conservative concern trolling? Concernvative?! If the shoe fits...

It's related to a lack of spell check in my comment box.

MisterTweak: James!: Elandriel: Greenlit links skew very republican, but participants skew very democratic. It's an interesting disconnect.

I AM OUTRA.. wait... no, actually, that's very insightful and probably a good explanation of why fark works well.

Dammit. Someone say something outrageous, so I can complete my rant.

Um... er... oh, I've got one! oh I hope this doesn't cause too much outrage -_-;;
