(Fark)   The Politics tab coverage of the conventions has seemed to skew awfully Republican... Has anyone else noticed this?   (fark.com) divider line 404

No, for you see i was living in a cave. On mars. With my eyes closed and my fingers in my ears.

So if by "skewed" you mean 1 Repub for every 12 Dems, that may be the case.

2012-09-07 02:22:13 PM
Really? The PITA is showing everything skewing towards Tory.

Weird.

If the source is concervative and the headline is mocking it do you consider that republican?

2012-09-07 02:30:22 PM
It has. I've stayed on the TF tabs for that reason.

Greenlit links skew very republican, but participants skew very democratic. It's an interesting disconnect.

But also this.

For the most part, I've been staying out of the politics tabs...both sides are full of shiat and I'm voting 3rd party so going into any politics thread is just going to piss me off and raise my blood pressure. Come to think of it, why did I come in here?

2012-09-07 02:42:33 PM
Hadn't noticed. There actually weren't a lot of headlines for either, other than the famous Empty Chair Monologue. Both parties managed to avoid any extremely public gaffes.

I do, however, quite enjoy a certain someone's occasional beer-fueled Tweets threatening to shut the politics tab down.

My opinion (And I don't greenlight shiat or have any say in it) is that this is how it should be.  How insanly boring would the politics tab be if 90% of the group agreed with what was being posted.  Fark could easily turn into something terrible like the Democratic Underground or Free Republic.  I started coming to Fark all those years ago because it linked to things that challenged me and pissed me off a little. Then you come into the threads and there are people from both sides arguing about it.

I AM OUTRA.. wait... no, actually, that's very insightful and probably a good explanation of why fark works well.

Dammit. Someone say something outrageous, so I can complete my rant.

Truly stupid right-wing web sites vastly outnumber truly stupid left-wing ones. For every dumb Daily Kos post, you have two American Thinkers, a WND, and half a Free Republic. Hence, more greens.
Conservative internet speech is mostly concentraded in fwd:fwd:fwd emails or dedicated echo-chambers. Hence, less participants.

I like a good debate. As long as the threadshiatters and the trolls are not ruining it. I wish that we could talk about things instead of people on both sides spewing specious statements and blatent lies. Solutions would help.

2012-09-07 04:24:08 PM
The reason there is a lack of conservatives and republicans on this site is because they don't like to see views that are not their own. Heavily skewing for their benefit keeps the few "conservatives" we've got to argue with. If you don't treat them with kid gloves and favoritism the start trying to nail themselves to crosses while crying about the liberal media conspiracy.

NowhereMon: PITA?

The Political Thermometer monstrosity, introduced to "prove" that Fark was, indeed, Fair ünd Balanced. Did Drew get rid of it? It was buggy and flawed from concept and the source of a lot of pants wetting rage. I had it ad-blocked for so long, I just assumed that it was still there.

My problem is that the "right" links are ridiculously insane, from Breitbart to Townhall to WND, etc...

I wish there were more intelligent conservative writers, but the fact that there aren't isn't Fark's fault.

Well, George Will is.  At least in my opinion.  But indeed the right has some crazies, and crazy articles are fodder for more fun around here.

I've seen it happen. You do have to wait for the kids to get bored and move to some newer shinier thread, but I've had intelligent, polite discussions with many Farkers that are usually accused of only spewing talking points or threadshiatting. Strangely enough, it helps if you do not call them names right out of the gate.

True, but also the Admins seem to be throwing out greenlights to bald faced ridiculousness from the right side of the aisle. While that may make most of us tear our hair out, what everyone is doing is essentially the internet equivalent of rubbernecking on the highway as you pass an accident. The left leaning articles generally don't generate the same type of ire, and therefore are much more boring threads, but everyone passes the Right-wing threads hoping to see a decapitation or a VW Beetle smashed between two semis.

Remember: on the political discourse continuum, the opposite of Right Wing Ire is Left Wing Humor. The right wing writers see something and they get angry; the left wing writers see something and they laugh.

I think some people don't want to see right wing articles at all, even to mock them.  It's the same urge that causes folks to announce that they refuse to click on and read an article.  You may as well deny the ocean a single tear for all it matters.

The other day I was listening to some show on NPR where some nun was debating some right wing guy, not sure who it was because I tuned in mid way, they were all being very respectful and nice and being fairly eloquent with their responses all around but the thing was, the right wing guy was constantly lying. He even used the firmly debunked on fark talking point that 47% of people pay no taxes, he actually said that, he didn't even use the half truth lying with statistics version that say "no income taxes" he went right for the real whopper. Same deal with that Herb London guy, at the end of the day he is still saying the same shiat you would read on American Thinker but with more flowery verbiage.

I know at least two that think it's there is some vast lurker community that must be protected from dangerous opinons.  They're the ones you see responding to every half assed troll attempt so they can set the record straight.
