And people want to go back to the good ol' days of establishing national champions?

Maybe that's part of their real tradition.

I spent a fair amount of time at A&M in the mid '80s. At the time, it was the largest single gathering of hardcore Republicans in the country. I'm guessing it will fit in just fine with the rest of the SEC.

They have been outright obnoxious about the whole thing. They'll fit into the SEC just fine.

one of the popular majors at texas a&m is the study of manually masturbating farm animals. they'll fit in just fine with the rest of the SEC.

national championships or not you have to like how quickly sumlin is getting up to speed. he had suspended two players for the first game of the season due to off season stupidity. the game was to be against la tech. so what does a&m do when a hurricane forces that game to be rescheduled and now their first game of the season is a sec game versus florida? that's right, state that the suspensions will stay with the la tech game and those players will play versus florida. brilliant!

The article doesn't even mention that they added 2 more Conference Championships too which is even more of a joke. They added the 1997 and 2010 Big 12 Conference Championships as well. In 1997 they played and lost to Nebraska 54-15 and didn't even play in the 2010 Big 12 Championship game. They were tied with Oklahoma and Oklahoma State in the Big 12 South, each with a 6-2 conference record but the tiebreaker is overall record in which case they were third behind the two Oklahoma schools. Yet they decided to put it on the side of their stadium as a conference championship. But the Aggies won't let the facts get in the way.

To the SEC: these are the Aggies. Maybe you see now what we've been talking about all along.

As a graduate of an SEC school let me state that there are few things as annoying as the SEC SEC chant and circle jerk amongst the conference. Other than my school I always cheer against the SEC when possible.

I understand raiding the Big 12 for a Texas school to get some inroads there for recruiting but I don't think the SEC thought it through with the basket case that is A&M

I didn't create the image. Perhaps I'm a bit foggy this afternoon, but how's my math off? Honest question.

I concur, even though I flunked out of my chosen school, still I followed them closer than anything else since I went to my first sports event in 1980 and I still graduated from one of the extension universities, rarely do I cheer on any SEC team besides mine, the rest can suck my dick.

Well that happens when you choose to skip classes, then drink and smoke a lot of pot, really I was made to come home after being told by dad "Im not paying for you to get drunk and stoned" The rest of that year sucked since I had to work with them, it farking sucked but it taught me a lesson that either I get some kind of education or I will be very sore most of my life, dad logic works sometimes.

A&M grad here. First, I think it's stupid and shouldn't have been done - it makes us look terrible. The only reason I can think of for anyone to have decided to claim the '97 and '10 Big 12 Titles is based on Link. From the official Big 12 site, it says we have three conference titles (and notes in small print that it includes co-championships and division title). Again, I think it's a terrible idea. Too many Aggies get pissed about how we're perceived nationally, but then go and do things like this to reinforce those perceptions. Claiming those musty old National TItles was also a terrible move (though I think it is awesome that our 1919 team outscored its opponents 275-0).

We just make it too easy for people sometimes, unfortunately. Still, happy to be in the SEC and a little disappointed that I can't be there for the game tomorrow.

This is funnier than Jayhawks claiming Helms titles.

Another Ag.
Agree with Claude's points above, except I've got no problem with the "national titles." Everyone's are mythical anyway.
Conference titles are a dumb move, even if the argument is that Big12 lists them. We'd make fun of other schools if they did it.

I hoped A&M would lose the inferiority complex when they got out from under Texas' shadow. They deserve better.

I was gonna say that you weren't a football player when you say you flunked out. Then I read the skip classes, drink and smoke pot and I reconsidered.

Then you seem to actually know your dad and he has some ethics. You can't be a football player at an SEC school.

To be fair, the sign doesn't say which conference they were champions of.

Since when do teams not claim co-championships as conference championships? Also, since every national championship in the past has been based on voting or some computer system ranking, it's hardly ridiculous to add the two in the past - if the system is used to help determine championships now, it's kinda silly to say you can't use it to award it in the past.
