How can people be that stupid?!? We read about this part of society so often.
Seriously - how does it happen?

People like this need a special place - not jail - maybe reopen those old asylums as "Homes for the Incredibly farking Stupid!"

It seems to me that the 'M' in ATM is redundant, too as well. The 'Automatic' part implies that it is a machine.

FTFA: Jury told deputies he believed his son was responsible because he had the pin number to the account.

You guys going on about the Automated Teller ATM Machine missed out on the PIN number quote. Everybody knows it's a Personal Identification PIN Number. Sheesh.

Especially since ATM thefts usually come with an 100% capture and conviction rate. Especially those idiots that use a chain and a truck to pull an ATM out of a bank.

/use to work for a rather large bank - we knew if an ATM was gone within about 2 or 3 seconds

Ah, Husky Stadium, possibly the worst stadium in the country, in the best location in the country. Heard they are doing a major renovation, hope that is true. Although the bathroom floor troughs were..ah...entertaining.

Thank God they have cameras. Uncool story, brah:
I went to take out my last 60 bucks once, years ago, from the ATM drive-up and it gave me NOTHING but a slip saying my sixty dollars was gone. I made the mistake of stepping inside the bank to report it, and was promptly accused of stealing the money. I was held until the police arrived and then, much to my protest, was further held. They had to contact some company, get the tape, and review it before releasing me. No apologies. I was given three twenty dollar bills by the bank and they closed my account. No apologies at all from anyone.

What's really classy is that he tried to pin it on his son.

2012-09-07 05:48:05 PM
Deputies then showed Jury the photos taken by the ATM for each transaction he said was fraudulent during his first report

It only occurred to me that his name was Jury most of the way through the article.

Isn't there a specific word for someone whose name describes their actual occupation?

FTFA: the $1,515 that was taken from his account

1) Most ATMs dispense twenties only. Some dispense tens (B of A comes to mind). Very few dispense fives.

2) There's usually a daily limit to cash withdrawals and it's usually less than $1,515.

What a manual teller machine might look like:

/arguably, the little mechanical drawer in the lane closest to the building might count as one too

He was arrested for filling a false report. There is strong evidence that he is the one that took out the money, there is no reasonable doubt that he did it. He says he does not remember doing it. The article says it was used to buy drug. Is it unreasonable to believe that a drug user ( if the drug was for him) has a bad memory? More facts will come out during the trial ( like does he have documented memory or brain problems?) but based solely on that article then I believe that there is a reasonable doubt that he is guilty of knowingly filing a false police report.

Filing a false report isn't a felony and requires only a preponderance of guilt.
