Of course. If it was issued after the speech, it might be expected to address things from the actual speech instead of what Romney wants the speech to be.

Was this out of desperation or were they just going to say the same thing no matter the outcome?

The later, I'm sure.

The awesome thing about having your mind made up is that you don't have to listen to anybody.

2012-09-07 02:06:20 PM
What's the big deal. The majority of conservative pundits already had their review of Obama's and Clinton's speeches days before they made them.

2012-09-07 02:06:33 PM
The only plausible explanation is that Romney is a time traveler from the future. He's sent here to prevent a catastrophic event that will occur if Obama is re-elected.

/that's the spin I would use to explain this premature

2012-09-07 02:06:51 PM
Wouldn't Obama's promises to help fix America have been easier to accomplish if he wasn't working with a bunch of petulant children who fought every last thing he ever did?
Does a vote for Obama mean 4 more years of petulance and obstructionism? Is that what Romney is telling us? Because that's all I see.

FFS, if Obama said he was for oxygen, Republicans would suffocate themselves.

Oh Mitt. You say you aren't going to watch the convention so of course you both write a response to Obama's presentation and release it before Obama is done. It's the exact level of professionalism I've come to expect from the Romney campaign.

I'd say the latter; it would be consistent with their whole "facts don't matter" mindset. Of course, that's a helluva way to get reamed badly when something comes up (read: lack of tax returns) that you have to account for.

Where Romney's camp just launches salvos of accusations; Obama's camp replies to said salvos and unleashes some of their own., Instead of replying, Romney moves on to his next talking point....but the last salvo still sticks.

Fart_Machine: What's the big deal. The majority of conservative pundits already had their review of Obama's and Clinton's speeches days before they made them.

From what I heard (didn't watch Fox News) the pundits were stumbling pretty hard to find something to criticize after Clinton's speech.

I think that just might work, If I were obama, I would spend like, a month after the election just putting out trolling statements like that.

2012-09-07 02:10:17 PM
So you're impying a member of the Liberal Lamestream Media whose only goal in life is every Republican imprisoned or enslaved for their Love of Freedom took their embargoed copy of the speech distributed by the Obama campaign to the media prior to the speech and gave it to Romney?? But what will their Masters at the Abortion Factories say?

2012-09-07 02:10:31 PM
Romney yesterday: I WILL NOT WATCH OBAMA'S SPEECH!
Romney today: This is what is wrong with Obama's speech!

Holy crap is there not anything this guy won't lie or flip-flop on?

2012-09-07 02:11:20 PM
It's ok, Romney can retroactively change his rebuttal to the speech he didn't watch.

2012-09-07 02:11:43 PM
Wow, what an amazing point-by-point rebuttal of President Obama's address! Ouch! This will surely win Romney the election.

Well when Michelle was trying to get kids to eat healthier school lunches, they did come out against that. So it's not too far off.

2012-09-07 02:12:26 PM
It wasn't early or premature. It was proto-retroactively commenced before the projected delayed ending of the speech adjusting of course for the time cube.

Well, the quote in TFA is so generic it could apply to any situation. I'm going with same thing no matter the outcome.

Corvus: Romney yesterday: I WILL NOT WATCH OBAMA'S SPEECH!

This time he not only released a response to a speech he said he wasn't going to watch but also released it before he could have possibly seen it. He farked up his farkup.

Do they issue a copy of the speech to the media like they do the SOU address beforehand?

WizardofToast: Was this out of desperation or were they just going to say the same thing no matter the outcome?

The text of the 'rebuttal' is pretty boilerplate. Since the President's speech was unlikely to really change the focus of his campaign, the generic "Obama's policies have failed and he wants to keep doing them" reply could have been written days if not months (and they fill in the blank on the VP choice).

It does not address any specific thing the President said, and the language is so bland if you swap some names and pronouns and a little phrasing and the Obama campaign could have said it about Romney last week.

They were always going to say that. It's clear Romney's folks do not care at all what the Dems do, they're going to keep running the same play on the assumption that it will eventually work.

2012-09-07 02:17:46 PM
That was a rebuttal to the acceptance speech by the imaginary Obama Romney's been running against...

2012-09-07 02:18:40 PM
He's testing how much a Team GOP candidate can do or say and still have a loyal following. At this point, I think it is same to assume that he is right.

I'm seeing exceptions here and there, however.

This is the new level of discourse. Take whatever question or idea is thrown at you, repeat it, pause and then just say whatever you want with no regard to what was postulated.

Your tenses are all wrong. If you had a time machine, like I do, and hadhen studied the tenses of time travel, you willven had preo-written it better.

The speeches are generally made available ahead of the actual speech, but don't let that slow your roll to stupidity.

Well... when you divorce yourself from facts, you're free to issue rebuttals way early, eh?

I just can't figure out why he didn't issue his rebuttal Tuesday. Then Fox & Friends could have given all their coverage to Romney's rebuttal and completely wipe any coverage of the DNC at all.

It's hard to write a review based off of a movie's script.

There is literally room to go off script/message though. Just ask Joe.

Vote for us or we'll shoot this country.

2012-09-07 02:24:03 PM
Upcoming Romney camp line:

"Since Governor Romney did not watch Mr. Obama last night, as there was no need to hear what we have been hearing for four years, we sent out the traditional rebuttal to Mr. Obama at the time his slot was scheduled to end. As we did not see the event, we were unaware that it had run over its scheduled time. Which seems fitting for Mr. Obama."

Their shiat is so boilerplate even a stupid stoner can see where they go next. Which seems fitting for Mr. Romney.

Clinton did a lot of off-script in his speech, too. You'd look like an idiot to judge only on the rough draft speech when the final draft is significantly different.

2012-09-07 02:25:24 PM
I have to wonder if Romney is ignoring the fact that our president kept more promises than he did not keep and the fact that the Republicans in Congress blocked anything and everything that Mr. Obama tried to accomplish. They did this and were proud of their efforts to help America fail so that it would appear to be the president's fault.

There is no way in Hell that I will vote for an obstructionist bunch of asshats. I left the Republican party because of bullshiat like this.

They have no patriotism, only greed.

Not to mention the fact that they go off script. Clinton's speech was something like 2000 words longer than the prepared text.

It is a pretty hilarious tack to take considering the heavier emphasis on foreign policy the whole night.

CujoQuarrel: Do they issue a copy of the speech to the media like they do the SOU address beforehand?

Excerpts/talking points, according to the article, so people probably had a good idea of what he was going to talk about a few hours beforehand. There wasn't anything specific in the speech they were planning to address and Obama didn't include any "SUPRISE!" moments so they got away with it, but releasing it early makes the campaign look unprofessional (again). If Obama had done a last minute surprise like "It was the aliens from the Roswell crash that killed JFK, not the little green men, they're friendly, it was the greys. Thank you, have a good night and god bless America", Romney would have looked ridiculous not responding to it appropriately.
