Come on man, your constituents believe in what you said!

I was *assured* last night that Akins had "pretty much recovered" from that little intersection of the Universe and the Akinsverse, and that McCaskill was done for.

Tv stations have a natural defense that keeps them from being impregnated by ads that rape them by not paying

ride that campaign to the bitter end! I am sure that this will in no way end badly.

So you're saying his campaign has natural defenses against injections of new cash?

2012-09-07 11:43:30 AM
He has basically pulled back to even with McCaskill. Even without much money to work with on Akin's part, it will probably end up being extremely close.

The more the GOP tries to distance themselves from him, the more obvious the connections between his views and the party platform become.

Actually the Dems spent a fair amount of money to get him the primary nom, knowing that he was like this.

I wonder how they will jive that with their love of Citizens United - the case that allowed McCaskill to do this.

(I don't really wonder - they'll lie to themselves same as usual)

Once those ads were on the books, they were locked in. The station doesn't have the right to cancel them just because they don't like the circumstances of the deal. Whether they wanted them or not, Akin gave them his ads, and now the station is just going to have to live with it.

How did the deal get made? Who knows? Maybe Akin got an executive drunk until she passed out, then forged a signature. Maybe he threatened or extorted the executive into signing against her will. But, none of that matters. Until I see proof beyond a reasonable doubt that Todd Akin held a gun to that executive's had before, during, and after the signing of the deal, the station should be forced by the government under penalty of law to air those ads.

this gets into one of those funny election questions.
Parties are not controlled by the constitution. Primaries and the primary ballots are under complete control of the Party.
They party decide who and who is not allowed on a ballot. If leadership doesnt like some, if they are not ideologically pure, why would they let this person on the ballot in the first place?

lol

I suspect that, in this case, he was not their optimal candidate, but they figured that the math on who he did appeal to was good enough so that they could beat McCaskill.

Whether that, in itself, was a miscalculation, I don't know. From what I gather this gentleman is well-known for being a bit off his rocker, and this isn't the first time he's said something similarly offensive and ridiculous, so perhaps the GOP simply believed they could keep his nutty thoughts in line until after the election.

I'm sure subby is wrong. Ads are created by corporations, which are people, which Akin would never abort. Or is it just the unborn he wouldn't abort? Maybe cancelling those ads would be like raping those companies, which are people, and that would be bad. Now the critical issue is would that be "legitimate" rape? If I understood his argument correctly, in cases of legitimate rape, no pregnancy can occur, which we could view as "harm" to the victim as it was unplanned? If the victim gets pregnant we know she's just a slut so no harm. So any corporation that was actually harmed by lack of ad buys would have be asking for it anyway so no need to feel sorry for them.

/sorry, was just reading about Glenn Beck crying about something

After what he said? Tough.
If someone accidentally drove a delivery van full of unlabled bull semen up his asscrack and tore him a whole new rodeo pen, got him knocked up and he was begging for medical intervention, I would lead the crusade to insure that what ever horned beast crawled out of his body at the end of the gestation period was reared to the age of puberty and forced to fight in the armed forces as a mine sweeper.

I don't know where you get your information, but in Missouri if you meet the legal qualifications and pay your filing fee then you're on the primary ballot. There were actually eight people in the Republican senate primary this year, five of whom garnered less than 10,000 votes each. The party would have gladly kept most of those people off if they were legally able. I'm not as well versed in access laws in other states, but I'm pretty sure for example the Democratic Party in South Carolina wouldn't have allowed Alvin Greene on the their 2010 senate primary ballot if they had any choice in the matter.

Up to now he'd been able to pay for lots of TV ads. Unfortunately for him it's still two months until the election; he's out of money, and the DNC is going to go all-out to help McCaskill.

It'll be close, but I'm chalking this one up to the Dems.
