Yeah, so, I'm going to say this is fake. Or, the guy is really losing his marbles.

"President Obama is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people," Eastwood told The Pine Cone this week. "Romney and Ryan would do a much better job running the country, and that's what everybody needs to know. I may have irritated a lot of the lefties, but I was aiming for people in the middle."

What did the intrepid reporter from The Carmel Pine Cone do? Catch him as he was just rolling out of bed?

"I had three points I wanted to make," Eastwood said. "That not everybody in Hollywood is on the left,
Shut up and sing, unless you are on the right, than you can talk.
"that Obama has broken a lot of the promises he made when he took office"
i.imm.io

"and that the people should feel free to get rid of any politician who's not doing a good job. But I didn't make up my mind exactly what I was going to say until I said it."

So vote out Congress and the House? who controls the purse strings again?

I looked around that site trying to see if it was satire but alas, it appears to be a legit newspaper for a legitimately dull area in California that was able to get a legitimate interview with Clint Eastwood.

Everyone in Hollywood is a liberal.

Except the people who fund everything - like Lorne Michaels. (Who, conservatives should notice, always seem to keep doing business with these same liberal loonypants actor morons who can't be trusted with money, and always make movies beating up on those same poor widdle conservatives.) And Patty Heaton. And Chuck Norris. And Eastwood. And Kelsey Grammer. And Heather Locklear. And (original Meg) Lacey Chabert. And Hilary Duff (whatever that is). And Fred Thompson (who, it can be argued, is no longer in Hollywood). And Angie Harmon. And Dennis Miller. And James Woods. And Tom Selleck. And Vince Vaughan (who is a Republican, by his own admission - ditto Adam Sandler). And Bruce Willis. And Robert DuVall...

// plus, there was that one actor/union boss president guy, but who remembers him?

There's a massive lack of self awareness on the right, where they all think they're middle of the road independents speaking for some silent majority.

I may have irritated a lot of the lefties, but I was aiming for people in the middle.

At least I, and many others on the left I know, fully realize we're to the left of much of America and don't delude ourselves into thinking otherwise.

Clint Eastwood: "President Obama is the greatest...and um, what? Pancakes? Um, American people need more waffles," Eastwood told The Pine Cone this week. "Romney and um, yeah, they are, um... no, not now... water additive? It's water, what else do you need to add? Um, jobs, and um.. running the country, and, um.. what's everybody need to know? I may have irritated a lot um, you know, the, um, how's that go? I was aiming for the middle.

Ok, I'll start it, you finish it: I'm a little teapot short and stout..."

He had no idea that overnight, a rebellion had erupted online against the media's condemnation of him, with thousands of bloggers, Twitterers and commentators calling him, "a genius," "1,000 times more brilliant than the media," and saying he's "only gotten better with age."

Congrats, Clint...you're practically up there with the fat Jedi Kid.

Has anyone pointed out to him that Obama didn't launch the war in Afghanistan? Or that Romney is a Harvard law grad just like Obama?

2012-09-07 10:31:42 AM

gopher321: /goes off to watch The Good, The Bad and The Ugly again

That's a theme he could have used effectively in his speech. In 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly ' there is the repeated line, 'there are two types of people in this world ..." like at the end in the cemetery, "there are two types of people in this world; those who dig and those with a gun." It's a great line.

Clint should have gone with, "There are two types of candidates in this race ..." then listed a characteristic he likes about Romney and compare it to a characteristic he dislikes about Obama. He could repeat the theme throughout the speech covering all the points he feel strongly about. It would have appealed to people outside the Republican Party, it would have appealed to his fans, it would have gotten plenty of 'sound bite' time on the morning news and it would have been effective. Instead he blew his chance by talking to chair.

No Clint, you laid an egg.

2012-09-07 10:34:20 AM
But even then, with just an hour before he appeared on stage, it still hadn't occurred to Eastwood to use an empty chair as a stand-in for the president.

"I got to the convention site just 15 or 20 minutes before I was scheduled to go on,"
he said. "That was fine, because everything was very well organized."

After a quick trip through airport-style security, he was taken to a Green Room, where Archbishop Dolan of New York sought him out to say hello. Then he was taken backstage to wait for his cue. And that was when inspiration struck.

"There was a stool there, and some fella kept asking me if I wanted to sit down," Eastwood said. "When I saw the stool sitting there, it gave me the idea. I'll just put the stool out there and I'll talk to Mr. Obama and ask him why he didn't keep all of the promises he made to everybody."

He asked a stagehand to take it out to the lectern while he was being announced.

"The guy said, 'You mean you want it at the podium?' and I said, 'No, just put it right there next to it.'"

And that's why you shouldn't just wing it. If you had a background in improv, that's different. But you're 82 and have been memorizing scripts your whole life.

No wonder everyone's still asking "WTF?" rather than talking about Romney's speech.

He tried to give an improve style delivery of the stuttering guy being confused by the answers reminiscent of an old burlesque style and came up way short. That's a fail. A Bud Abbot or Lou Costello or a young Bob Hope might have nailed it if...the source material wasn't dog whistles and fabricated talking points. You failed on all aspects, Clint. You didn't look like a performer of satire, unless you were satirizing senile dementia, and your facts and points were rubbish. All around fail!

Then you are 5 years old.

SNL, Everyone Loves Raymond, Walker (I admit that Norris is a stretch), Gran Torino (and everything farking else), Cheers/Frasier/[that show he's on now), [everyone's 1990s fantasy], Family Guy, pop culture icon, L&O (and he ran for president), L&O (from 10 years ago), [pundit who's been in everything from The Net to Murder at 1600], Family Guy/a bunch of movies, Magnum (and a bunch of other stuff), [are you kidding me?], [are you kidding me again?], [seriously, you don't think these three are relevant?], The Godfather...

All of those people/IP have been relevant - in Hollywood - in the last 10 years, with the possible exceptions of Norris and Locklear (and maybe Angie Harmon).

It is truly amazing when charting a "left - right" political axis globally, or even historically in the US. It is shocking to see how right it is. If the current Republican party simply winked out, the Democratic party simply took its place and a new "left" party arose we'd be back where we were in the time of Eisenhower. Or perhaps even Nixon (not comparing Obama to Nixon directly in this argument)

Traveling through Europe, keeping in touch with friends abroad and actually listening to foreign service news paints how starkly the US is regressive in its modern politics.

There is no doubt that a lack of popular, well distributed fact-based media is a primary cause of this. Every time I hear someone label Obama as a "socialist" or a "radical" I wince. Those words simply don't apply to a right-of-center, Christian, conservative that is our current president.

So, Romney and Ryan did no vetting and had no idea what this 82 year old, (possibly senile as far as they knew) guy was going to say, on the second most important night of the campaign (after the first debate), and this is supposed to make them look...good?
