To be fair, this actually demonstrated just as much ignorance of their own country and people.

Freepermod, running out of American sites to make up incendiary headlines for, now looks north to our neighbor Canada, where vast untapped open tracts of Derp await for the bootstrappy mod to make up headlines about.

Look, I know the Canadian Herp sands look attractive but they are only a temporary solution to deal with Peak Derp.

From Wikipedia: "Bieber was discovered in 2008 by American talent manager Scooter Braun"

So basically he was just a teen idiot on youtube (another American creation) before being found and promoted by an American. So tell, who's responsible for Bieber Fever?

From the same wiki article: "Bieber was born on March 1, 1994 in London, Ontario in St Joseph's Hospital,[15][16] and was raised in Stratford, Ontario.[17]"

Born there. Thus Canada caused it.

I'll give you the its/it's one, though. My bad.

Not to mention the fact that our Conservatives (among other things) used Keynsian stimulus to help protect the country from the global recession. Also, our heavily regulated banking system kept us away from producing toxic debt in the first place.

/That being said, I would prefer that if the Conservatives absolutely, have to be the party in power, I wish they were a minority gov't.

If the Conservatives had been in power when the banks were clamoring for deregulation, instead of having Paul Martin at the financial helm, you can bet that wouldn't have been the case.

I was gonna say we don't, but then I rtfa and chuckled.

However, doesn't the PM have some of Bush's old advisors, and then there's the whole trying to put a pipeline in to get your tar sands oil to anyone but the US.

So we don't hate Canada, just some of Canada's more conservative politicians

More seriously, the next time some politician goes on and on about our best friend and ally in the whole world, they better be talking about our neighbor to the north rather than some tiny tart in the Middle East. I'd probably vote for a politician that had the balls to say "My first foreign trip will be to Jerusalem. Ha, just kidding with you, it's a lot more important for me to visit Ottawa and see the Canadian Prime Minister."

Yes, absolutely, but I didn't want to delve that deeply into the background. I am remembering Harper's praise of our banking laws when we realized that the global recession wouldn't be felt full force here. I'll email those words back to my MP when they do go to deregulate.

Since it's spelled metre and theatre, shouldn't it be humre?

Before Usher discovered him, Bieber was a busker. Blame the US for that, because we're not the ones who hyped him. Same goes for Avril - she went to NY to get famous.

Celine Deion and Nickelback are our fault, though, and we apologize for that.

Like the voters will notice the difference.

I bet most Republicans haven't even noticed that it's the wrong guy. If they do notice they'll go smoothly and without losing a beat from being outraged at the Democrats using a picture of Their Man to being outraged that the Democrats used a picture of a Soviet Canuckistani.

Voters are like those seagulls that court a mooring post on the wharf because nobody ever taught them what a female seagull looks like. They get their photo in the paper once in a while for being as dumb as bricks, but otherwise they're just as dumb as bricks.

-1. Dave Hancock is generally considered a Red Tory by Alberta standards. The baseline has shifted a bit in the Redford era, so it might be possible to call him a small-c conservative with a straight-face, but comparing him to conservative Republicans is ridiculous.

In the future, I expect your off-the-cuff comments on Fark to be vetted by research assistants and include footnotes.
