in further noos, men aged 18-24 have disproportionally high rates of alcholism.

2003-11-23 10:41:35 AM
Damn, who do these women talk to ? I have a handphone and never receive calls from young women. Maybe they just talk to each other ?

2003-11-23 10:41:38 AM
More than half of the 18 to 24 year-olds interviewed had credit card or personal loan debts of more than $14,000, while a quarter had debts over $20,250

Am I misreading that?! Or are they just misreporting it?

2003-11-23 10:42:04 AM
That's because women are stupid.

2003-11-23 10:42:36 AM
Too bad Cricket sucks so bad for what they offer. They'd be a viable competitor for most people.

The study, by University of Newcastle academics Dr Margaret Griffiths and Bill Renwick, said teenagers as young as 16 had reported debt problems.

Who the hell is granting credit to 16 year olds, loan sharks? Or is 16 the Aussie age for being able to enter into contracts?

Is there a cure for cancer yet?

farking biased study.

A study of more than 2300 people advised by members of the Financial Counsellors Association of NSW last year found they had overall debts of $72 million. Sixty-five per cent had debts in addition to credit cards and loans.

That is only the people who sought finicial advice. Of course people who seek finacial advice are going to be in debt. Where is the normal group, that is, those who were not seeking debt counselling.

and in australia as well, where the per minute rates for users of cell phones suck compared to US "1000 minute free" plan.

2003-11-23 10:48:15 AM
What the fark do they talk about? You go to the mall and every girl in the joint is talking on the celly.

I put maybe 30 minutes a month on mine.

2003-11-23 10:50:16 AM
and as an ajoinder.

What else does that age group get on credit. Cell phones = obviously. Maybe a much smaller group cars, but there is decent public transport in most major cities.

crapo article.

Twenty-thousand dollars in credit card debt! That's like having a mortgage except you don't have a house.

Women need something to do while driving 20mph under the limit in two lanes with a blinker on the whole time. They can't knit or cook in the car!

2003-11-23 10:56:00 AM
Pyro, agreed. I used them for about 2 years but got sick of them. I mean I understand it's 'local' coverage, but besides their local coverage being shiatty their customer service was even worse. They begna charging a fee just to mail you a bill, or you could opt-out and just view your bill online. After 3 months of sending emails/calling attempting to get a login/passwd to view my bill online (since their way wasn't allowing me to get one) I ended up cancelling. I sent detailed emails to their corporate office.. not a single response.
T-mobile has me now.

2003-11-23 10:57:55 AM
Is it me or did they not say *anything* about it being women. That headline was extremely misleading and was obviously written by a misogynistic twat.

Someone prove me wrong please so I don't hate people completely.

I don't get it either. I was eating the other day and a woman was sitting with 3 friends and she talked on the cell phone for over 30 minutes. Not one word to the people sitting in front of her, that I noticed. And she dialed at least one of those calls, so it was a conscious choice not to talk to the people you went to eat with.

(she was loud at times, hard to ignore)

//And no, it's not just women, but it seems to be mostly women

a tad emotionally unstable are we today?

i saw nothing about women in it either, but i believe most male brains automatically correlate heavy personal cell phone usage with women.

2003-11-23 11:05:29 AM
By the way, men are just as bad on the cell phone - yesterday, I nearly got run off the road by an idiot male that was talking on his cell who apparently couldn't drive in a straight line at the same time.

You think women are on cell phones more than men because you happen to perving at girls all the time. If you took time to notice the men, they are also yapping on cell phones.

I hate being on the phone - I'm not sure why people want to be available to be harrassed 24 hours, 7 days.

I thought 30 minutes was excessive, then again I'm a shut-in.

slobarnuts:

I'm slightly emotionally unstable most days.

You love it.

"i believe most male brains automatically correlate heavy personal cell phone usage with women"

that's because most male brains are controlled exclusively by their penis - if you are constantly looking at teenage girls, you are bound to see a few on the phone.

2003-11-23 11:08:51 AM
I hate having to answer the phone, and having one following me around isn't something I like either. They are good for emergencies, so I have one, I just usually have the ringer off.

2003-11-23 11:10:02 AM
Storyfan, you're right, they did not make any mention of it being one gender over the other. Someone's being sexist!

2003-11-23 11:13:28 AM
This is why I don't have a cel phone

2003-11-23 11:15:15 AM
The only reason I got one is my folks are really old and I want them to be able to reach me wherever I am.

2003-11-23 11:15:18 AM
I just use mine to take pictures of women in compramizing positions.

trolling

Rotary phones should make a comeback. You remember them right? When your phone says pulse or tone, it's where the pulse came from. Then they have the heavy cords that my cat jumps up on all the time... and they get those little weird twists in them that you can never get out no matter how long you work on them? It's like you stretched them out accidentally or something. Man those were the days.

Chariset, huh? Because you don't have self control?

I'm not trying to pick on you, I just don't understand what exactly you mean by 'that.'

"The NSW Minister for Fair Trading..."

For a second there, I thought this guy had the coolest job on earth, but then I realized it meant New South Wales.

On the other hand, if there is ever an opening for the NSFW Minister for Fair Trading, I'm available.

I work at a doctors office, (infact there right now), and i hate it when patients come up to check in and are talking on the phone. cuz i need to ask them questions, i need to obtain information from them but i can't get a word in because they are talking on the phone. it pisses me off and all the peopel behind the dumbass waiting in line.

and although I think just as many guys use cellphones as girls, I think it's safe to assume that the way we use the phones is different. IE when a guy uses his cellphone to call his friend it's like this

guy #1-"hey wanna hang out tonight?"
guy #2-"ya sure"
guy #1-"hooters at 7?"
guy #2-"sounds good"
end conversation

when a girl talks on the cell phone it's like

girl #1-"hey you wanna hang out tonight"
girl #2-"ya sure, what are you gonna wear cuz i'm gonna wear this, oh my god did you see mtv today, n'sync is soooo cute, i would so dump my boyfriend for any of them."
girl #1-"like totally!!, hey did you hear what jane said that jody said about april"
girl #2-"oh my god i know, she's such a slut!"
and so on and so on.

And this is me talking to a girl on the phone

me-"um...hi"
girl-"it's $5 for the first minut, then .99 each minute after that, you ready?"
me-"ummm..ya"

/god i'm bord at work.

WTF? I was going to forward this on to one of my female friends who's always on the phone, but it loses a lot of punch when you realize that nowhere does the article mention gender differences. Sheez!

That's Australian Dollars, which converts as follows:

Aus $14,000 = US $10,102.40 = GB 5,934.23
Aus $20,250 = US $14,612.40 = GB 8,583.45

Most hookers spend more than that on crack each year.

2003-11-23 11:38:13 AM
Where does it say young women? It doesn't.
It says young people. Young men are just as anxious they'll lose their friends that they have to be on the mobile every spare minute. And not only that they've got to be playing with something every minute. I've heard it claimed men now spend more time on the mobile than women for that reason.
"Socialisation is not going on the home." And who is supposed to fix that? Natural selection sounds good to me.

2003-11-23 11:39:11 AM
yea, forward it anyway. and tell her "look, the Fark headline said it had to do with women, so you must interpret it that way."

and she will be like
"yessir"

to tired. bored. spurting anything i can think of.

When I was 24, I had a $120,000 mortgage.

Guess I don't fall into that half.

Then again, I wasn't spending my money on stupid shiat like a cell phone. (I eventually got a cell phone, but only after the nature of my work absolutely required it).

2003-11-23 11:42:50 AM
Which is actually funny when you consider I've been working for a cell phone related company since I was 19.
