...while ABC/ESPN will be the exclusive provider for Big 12 men's basketball.

Well, shiat. On the one hand, it'll probably be easier for me to catch every KU game, as they'll all at least be on ESPN3. On the other hand, I'm probably going to have to listen to Musburger and Knight give each other handies for 40 minutes one more night a week.

Still, who better to cover Big 12 basketball than the coaching genius who made Texas Tech what it is today: the WELCOME mat that any team short of the Holy Sisters' School for the Blind can stomp on for two halves?

I wonder how many players wish he was still coaching there?

You know actually, Knight can be OK in the role of color. I mean sure, he comes across as some kind of humorless basketball android trying to learn what it is to feel, but he knows his X's and O's. Even if it's a bit dated, he does have a deep understanding of the game, and he can break down some of the more subtle things happening on the court. The problem is that he's borderline Asperger's, and if a player misses a block-out or is in the wrong defensive position early in the game, Knight will forget he's just doing color and harp on it for an hour and a half, because the viewer apparently really NEEDS TO LEARN THIS so they don't screw it up in their weekend pick-up game.

That's true, and that's how bad a coach Billy Gillispie was. He makes people long for Bob Knight.

This.

I actually like the Musburger and Knight team but a few years back in Bramlage Knight went on and on all game about Jacob Pullen and how he needs to stop hurting his team even though he was carrying them on his back.

Heh, I think I remember that game. There was also a (I think) Texas/KU game a couple years ago they did. This was right around the time that Thomas Robinson's mother had died, shortly after his grandmother had died, and it was a big story because it was just him and his sister now, the Morris Twin's mother was taking them in, Lawrence was rallying around them, etc.

Anyway, they're playing this game, and either one of the Morris Twins or someone on Texas does something stupid in the post early in the game. Knight's all over him for whatever he did, and every time he gets 10 seconds to speak during non-game action he's coming back to the mistake, just over and over.

Sometime in the second half they come back from commercial and Musberger is talking about the events surrounding Robinson from the past week. They show the footage of all the KU players attending the funeral, Musberger is going through his "The struggles of this poor, brave kid" routine, clip of Self talking about it and getting semi-choked up, etc. Musberger sets Knight up at the end of the package, and it's clear he wants Knight to say something about it, to show that he's a farking human being in some small way. Anything, like "It's terrible, but he's a good kid, he'll be all right", etc.

Nope. Musberger throws it into Knights lap with something like "Coach Thomas Robinson is struggling a bit on the floor tonight, but he's giving it his all and showing such courage and bravery, to be there for his teammates during this tragic time, and help them win this big game." And Knight just doesn't say anything for like 5 seconds, and goes right back to "OK, I want to go back to this blockout that Markeef missed in the first half..."

Pretty much my impression

Yep, pretty much same thing. Asperger's I'm guessing. But It's a better broadcast team than most, even though it may not be saying much. As long as Musburger isn't working a Texas football game...

Knight an "ok" color guy? Have your heard the broadcast??? He sucks balls and sounds bitter to be there.
