If I had to rule on whether or not someone had to be forcibly shaved or not, I would probably scram out "IMPORTANT SHIAT!" from the bench, then drink myself into a coma.

I'm over it now: linky farked??

Seriously, you can hang him just as easily with a beard. Get on with it, already.

He killed 13 people in 2009 and we're still hung up on his beard?

Gross has said the beard violates Army regulations and Hasan is still an officer in the U.S. Army and subject to regulations.

What EVER. Does it really make the least bit of farking difference what he looks like at this point?
Thanks for letting pointless BS like this take precedence in a murder trial, Colonel

FTA: The last time he was in court, Hasan told the judge, "Your honor, in the name of almighty Allah, I am a Muslim. I believe that my religion requires me to wear a beard."

Amazingly enough, he didn't seem to think his religion required him to wear a beard for the 8 years he was enlisted or all during med school (which the Army paid for), or for all the time he was a Lieutenant, Captain, or Major prior to lighting up Fort Hood.

Since he's innocent until proven guilty, he's still a farking Major, and required to follow grooming standards. Make him shave that shiat or get a couple of NCOs to do it for him.

I'm kinda wondering how you forcibly shave someone here. AFAIK the problem is you can't COMPEL him to shave himself, or agree to submit to it. We've gone past the point of "shave or I shall hold you in contempt, which could mean you'll serve another 2 years in ADDITION to 6 life sentences, so think that one over."

You can't slice them up, even if it's their own fault for moving. And trying to work an electric razor on someone squirming is a really difficult thing.

Are they gonna shoot him up with Propofol to knock him out? If you do this every day, it's gonna get... tedious. And his lawyers could make the case that he wasn't given a fair trial because he was still groggy from the anesthesia.

No, I think they're gonna custom-make a Hannibal-Lecter trolley to strap him down, with a head restraint, in order to accomplish this. So someone's probably gonna be making a 3D CAD drawing and machining a custom head restraint for this purpose.

2012-09-06 06:06:16 PM
But government prosecutors argued he should have to shave his beard, saying having it long would make it harder for witnesses to identify him as the shooter in court.

Ok.

Because us soft-hearted liberals demand rule of law rather than mob lynchings, that's why. You're welcome.

Well, you triggered the thought they could knock him out once, and give his Muslim face a nice Brazillian wax. That would last longer than shaving.

Of course, then I wondered why bother knocking him out? Waxing probably works fine on a struggling subject, and it's an established hair-removal technique safe enough to use on frail females, so how could the defense object?

//Plus, they could sell PPV tickets to help pay for the trial. I'd pay a few bucks to watch his beard ripped out by the roots...even if I am a soft-hearted liberal.

His defense team argued Hasan should be able to keep his beard under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, contending that shaving it would leave him in a "perilous religious state," according to a news release from Fort Hood.

He can always grow it back. It's not like they're going to execute him right after the trial. And on top of that, why wasn't he worrying about a "perilous religious state" when he murdered all those people?

In his ruling, Gross determined that Hasan cannot keep the beard because it violates Army regulations. Even as he awaits trial for murder, Hasan is still an officer in the U.S. Army and subject to regulations.

In the Core they would have just held him down and burned it off. farking army pussies.

I was under the impression that worrying about his "perilous religious state" is what actually led him to murder all those people.

Shave the f*cker. It will merely delay the inevitable conviction so we can get on with murdering him right back.

NutWrench: Thanks for letting pointless BS like this take precedence in a murder trial, Colonel

It's not really BS. The Army has rules and regulations that as an officer you are compelled to follow. If you do not follow them willingly, you will be made to follow them. And allowing him an exception based on his (claim of) faith could set a precedent for future military trials and possibly other unrelated situations.

He wants to keep his beard either because he know it will allow him to carry out his miserable existence for a little while longer, or it's his way of expressing his radical religious views. Modern (progressive) followings of Islam do not require you to have a beard. Shave that shiat. I don't care if this takes another three years to go through the appeals process. This guy is rotting in a cell.

Since he's innocent until proven guilty,

I'm suprised to hear a right-wing Farker use that phrase, even in such a hateful way.

he's still a farking Major, and required to follow grooming standards.

He thinks he's a failed martyr: he was supposed to die wile slaying infidels, not be paralyzed below the waist. Which ought to be enough trouble for someone who's innocent until proven guilty.

Leave the guy's face alone. People only care because they hate him. It makes no difference to the trial, except that it might prejudice the jury against him for refusing to follow grooming standards -- which ought to be a good thing right?

valkore:

This guy is rotting in a cell.

So what difference does it make what his farking face looks like? Let him twist his beard into dreadlocks and wear a purple muumuu if he wants. Wouldn't you want a little consideration while you rotted in a cell waiting to be tried, convicted and killed?

You don't have to condone what he (allegedly) did to remember he's still a human being. Paralyzed below the waist, rotting in a cell.

2012-09-06 07:25:24 PM
shiat, keep him alive. Let him grow his beard. Hide him someplace off in an Alaskan military base.
