"I speak jive."

Okay, got my obligatory quote from Airplane out of the way. Now then, any film comedy list attempting to determine funny by counting the number of laughs per minute of film is just wrong. What were these laughs they counted? Were they giggles, guffaws, rib ticklers, cackles of belly laughs. Did they allow the laugher to remain in the seated position with the service trays in the upright position or did they force the laugher to fall out of his or her seat and begin rolling around on the floor?

Next, in what alternate universe are such pedestrian chucklefests like Hangover, Superbad and Anchorman listed while Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein and Animal House go unmentioned?

Harry Freakstorm: Hot Shots and Hot Shots Part Deux should have been on there for laughs per minutes. Plus "National Lampoons Loaded Weapon" should be in there somewhere.

Not a Charley Sheen fan but he was lucky to be these movies.

Just saying.

Topper Harley: I could never find time for love. It's too heavy. It's an anchor that drowns a man. Besides, I got the sky, the smell of jet exhaust, my bike.
Pete 'Dead Meat' Thompson: A loner?
Topper Harley: No. I own it.

If they're measuring it by laughs per minute, then they needed to include The Descent, because that movie had me laughing non-stop.

2012-09-06 02:07:49 PM
Slap Shot, especially now that the insane 70's fashions make the movie a riot even if the sound's off.

I just actually read the included list in the article. What a bunch of shiat. What kind of group did they measure this with? The retards who laugh uproariously at the movies when previews of the newest Ice Cube / Adam Sandler family movie are being shown?

fruitloop: If we're ranking these as laughs per minute, what about the Jackass movies? They may be dumb, but you'll laugh your ass off.

/Air Israel, please clear the runway

I would love the Jackass movies a whole lot moreif they would skip over the nasty stuff and shorten the setup time between stunts - more like a long compilation of stunts in rapid successions. America's Funniest Videos does this well. Just get to teh funny.

Mikey1969: phlegmmo: jchic: MaudlinMutantMollusk: Two words: Young Frankenstein

Neither of these made the top 10? Superbad was number 4? That's farked up.

While I have no problem with Airplane! being the funniest, those should both definitely be on the list, or at the very least, Blazing Saddles should be on there if only one can be included.I got through about 17 minutes of Superbad, saw nothing worth continuing to watch the movie for. In my opinion, it was super bad.

ok, I am no huge Michael Cera fan, and I really just can't stand Jonah Hill, but if you didn't laugh at Superbad, your sense of humor is broken. The scene about the dick lunchbox is one of the funniest things I have ever seen in a comedy. The scene with the blood is hilarious. The entire McLovin plot is just brilliant.

I didn't laugh. I rolled my eyes and turned it off. Nothing about Jackass ever appealed to me or seemed "funny" -- `Just stupid. If I want to watch half-brained people doing stupid things with shopping carts, I'll go to Walmart.

bluorangefyre: Voiceofreason01: As funny as Airplane! is what really impresses me is that a movie with tits, numerous drug references (including a woman doing lines off a mirror) and an endless stream of sex jokes(two involving children) managed to get a PG rating. I'd like to see a filmmaker try that now.

I raise you Peter Grant's f-word and c-word tirade, Robert Plant picking up two joints (not to mention his children naked in the beginning), and Jimmy Page's occult-laden intro and fantasy sequences in the PG-rated The Song Remains the Same.

/plus there was not a PG-13 rating back then

I further raise you 'Barbarella'.

The rankings based on references to the movies would be somewhat different. Airplane would still be top ten, but Holy Grail and Caddyshack would likely be ahead of it.

No. The Hangover LOOKS funny... But isn't really all that funny if you're paying attention. It's the perfect movie for when you're drunk and with your buddies, and maybe using the film to reminsce about your recent trip to Vegas, but when you're sober, and just got home from a long day at work, it is NOT a good movie at all.

but the Rain Song performance makes up for all of that, and Page's double neck guitar/violin bow, and and and

Off the top of my head, in no particular order, I'd say the 10 movies that I can think of right now that made me laugh the most might be the following:

Blazing Saddles
Airplane
Young Frankenstein
The Big Lebowski
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Borat
The Blues Brothers
Used Cars
Dr. Strangelove (not exactly a comedy, but still makes one laugh)
Raising Arizona

2012-09-06 02:20:00 PM

WeenerGord: WeenerGord: Fark that list if Monty Python Holy Grail didn't make top ten. Also Men In Black was good.

Also Caddyshack

Overrated... yeah, I said it!

Another vote for "Meaning of Life" - the short feature "Crimson Permanent Assurance" is one of the most brilliant things they ever did.

there is one good scene in bridesmaids, when the girl shiats in the street.

but seriously, if you have to go to scat for laughs, you really had nothing.

Bridesmaids sucked.

Nothing by Apatow has really struck me as amazing, but maybe I'll try Superbad again.

It is a funny scene but it really goes on too damn long. The song should have been shortened for the film. as it is, it goes on long after the "every sperm is sacred" stops being funny. it is almost like a Family Guy stretch joke.

No Blades of Glory? Funnier than Anchorman.

There are some Jerry Lewis movies that are pretty damn funny.
Same with Marx Brothers.
I know. I'm old.

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World? Hilarious.
