GAT_00: Sadness. I'd like to go back to watching a decent Bond.

Go back where? Most of them suck donkey dong compared to Casino Royale.

I was really hoping Idris Elba would be chosen for the planned Nolan film.

scottydoesntknow: I love Daniel Craig, and don't fault him for the dreck that was Quantum of Solace. He did the best acting he could, it just wasn't a Bond film, it was a revenge flick with a guy named Bond.

Craig agrees:

'Yes and you swear that you'll never get involved with shiat like that, and it happens. On "Quantum", we were farked. We had the bare bones of a script and then there was a writers' strike and there was nothing we could do. We couldn't employ a writer to finish it. I say to myself, "Never again", but who knows? There was me trying to rewrite scenes - and a writer I am not.'

Jonny Ninja: I used to be a big Moore fan, but having rewatched more of the Connery's recently, Moore's work is just to cheesey/camp.

I will say Live and Let Die is one of my all time favorites though.

LaLD is basically a blacksploitation film, and hasn't aged well on the edges.

Alas, most of Moore's tenure was camp cheese, but at least he pulled off FOR YOUR EYES ONLY,
which is also in my personal Top 5, since it was one of the few times Moore's Bond had a stone cold
killer moment (when he shoved Locque's car down the cliff) and was all around a good (if still cheese
flavoured) espionage story.

GRCooper: I remember cringing when Pierce Brosnan was first put forward as a possible Bond in the 80's (when they chose Dalton).

Then I saw Fourth Protocol. Holy crap he was an amazing cold-blooded killer (which is what the Bond of the books is). Casino Royale made in the early 90's with Brosnan would've been incredible (not that I dont think Craig's wasn't great).

Oh, so this.

Everyone expected Brosnan to be Roger Moore 2.0 because of his work on REMINGTON STEELE.
Who knew the bastard could act? I think he pulled off the tortured, dark James Bond even better
than Dalton, though Dalton was saddled with crappy scripts and, economics aside he deserved at
least one more movie that wasn't either a re-written Moore script or an extended MIAMI VICE episode.

Mugato: Your_Huckleberry: Mugato: Brosnan was better.

My personal favorite. Although, aside from Goldeneye, he was kinda stuck with some inferior......stuff.

I agree. Although Tomorrow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough weren't terrible. They just didn't stand out. The World is Not Enough had a great theme song though. Mmm, Shirley Manson.

Die Another Day was pure crap though, except for the beginning where Bond was captured and tortured for months. They just didn't go anywhere with it and it got all nonsensical.

Brosnan, even in the worst of his films, was at least always watchable, and GOLDENEYE is probably
one of the top 5 of all the Bond films because of his presence.

Hebalo: It occurs to me that we don't need Bond anymore.

The Bourne films were the best 3 Bond films since Connery left.

Some whiny douche running around screaming "who am I" between incoherent blurry fight scenes, that was Bond?

LDM90: fusillade762: LDM90: Worst Bond ever. The movies are not fun to watch like a James Bond movie should be. He doesn't even say "Bond, James Bond." He could be just any action movie character. There's nothing about him that makes him James Bond.

ZOMG HE DOESN'T EVEN CARE IF HIS MARTINI IS SHAKEN OR STIRRED!!!

/you'll get over it

If you walked in and the movie was playing at some point after the opening credits, there's a good chance you could go through the rest of it never knowing you were watching James Bond.

/action movie star #436

Except for the fact that he actually DOES say the line "Bond, James Bond" at the end of Casino Royale and they DO use the music (the fact that the Bond theme doesn't play earlier is intentional).

The song's ("You Know My Name") main notes are played throughout the film as a substitute for the James Bond theme, to represent Bond's youth and inexperience. The classic theme only plays during the end credits to signal the climax of his character arc.

Seriously I'm more of a Bond fan than I am an Apple fan (and trust me...i would probably fark the corpse of Steve Jobs for a career at Apple) Craig is the best Bond we have had in years. The problem is, that no one is prepared to admit that there are two 'schools' of Bond, that are split right down the middle.

You have the School of Connery and the School of Moore

Connery = Connery, Dalton, Craig
Moore = Moore, Brosnan

Lazenby was just a mistake, but is more Moore'esqe than Conneryesque. Despite which school you favour, the whole point of Bond is you jump in and you go with it. So don't have a downer just because it's not your favoured category. I wholeheartedly love the Moore films over the Connery films, but actually I love the craig film, more than the Brosnan ones now.

Anyway, whats my point, oh yes it's this...Casino Royale, was amazing. That said if theres anyone that knows how to make a Bond film it's Martin Campbell, he proved the point with Goldeneye and he proved it again with Casino Royale.

QOS was as said, an absolute wreck due to the writers strike..it had no real coherency to it...and well it showed, it also featured what I consider to be possibly the worst Bond theme ever...Seriously don't let some poncy emo drummer twat, and an RnB pianist do a theme tune...it was horrible..it didn't flow, it didn't set the tone. I wanted to slit my wrists after i'd listened to it

Corbould's You know my name absolutely did the job for Casino Royale. It was loud it was brash..it made the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end

Now we have Skyfall, and we have a man at the helm that in terms of a commercial 'hollywood' director takes cinematography, and misé en scene to a whole new level (I think the only other director that comes close to Sam Mendes, is Chris Nolan) the story looks excellent. We have a VERY good 'baddy' and the trailer seems to say, we've basically got everything you loved about the Brosnan films, but still with the gritty craig edge.

I for one can't wait..and I can't wait for the next two either! Roll on Oct 26th... (bad luck Americans you have to wait till November 9th)

Bonus: It's in imax!!!
