From the comments, which are golden:

Michelle Obama claims to be working for our children's future?

So why did she go along with Obama hiring a known PEDOPHILE as CZAR of Safe Schools = KEVIN JENNINGS - known for his close association with NAMBLA, his Lectures on FISTING to young school children, placing child porn in the schools?

I am, but in a good way. Not silly enough to pretend the Obamas ever claimed to be dirt poor. Not silly enough to miss the distinction between poor, middle class, and car elevator rich.

I think you guys just don't understand success. How much more successful can you be than being worn to someone who is wealthy and politically connected? If you have to waste your time actually struggling just to get into a good school, you're already so far behind that, let's face it, you're a loser. But the man who is born with millions, now there's a man who's going places.

Michelle did - she alluded to it by saying how "she and her husband understand what it is to struggle to make ends meet." She spoke of their early years--about how a young Barry drove a car that was "rusted out" and found his furniture "in a dumpster," how they both came from families that had to "scrape by." BS! But the only lie a Democrat will ever recognize is when it is said by a Republican.

"every politician wants to convince the people that he was born in a log cabin that he built himself."

Just as true for dems as republicans.

Although Ann Romney's speech about how they "scraped by" when they first got married was f'ing ridiculous. Nobody disputes that Romney was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and Obama was not.

she pretty clearly describes a middle class life growing up. After they got together, I don't doubt they had money issues early on.

When I was born my dad was a cop and drove a VW Beatle that literally had a hole in the floorboards where you could see the ground, as MO described. He just got back from dropping my little bro off at a $120,000 a year special needs boarding school in CT. My FIL just told me a story recently about how he and my MIL had to dig through the trash to find a pre-approval for a $10k loan so they could afford a down payment on a house when he was in law school because his parents didn't have the $ to lend them. He makes a little under $1,000,000 a year now.

Just because it didn't happen to you doesn't mean it didn't happen to anyone. Why do you begrudge people the fruit of their labor?

NPR was interviewing people at the American Legion Convention & they interviewed some old lady who was going on about how she couldn't wait to get rid of Michelle Obama so they could have someone who "looks like a first lady" in.

Threads like this are notable primarily for the similar of liberal-generated content to the wharrgarbl Bush supporters would generate here a few years ago.

Look, here's the fact. Obama's campaign is exaggerating the humility of his origins in an effort to bestow "common man" appeal on him as contrast with Mitt Romney. This is purely an attempt to deceive voters - Obama did not come from particularly humble origins, even if he also didn't come from Romney-level money.

I'm not taking a position on whether coming from money is good or bad, or whether we should aspire to finding "common man" leaders, or any of that. But it pains the hell out of me to see Democrats willingly drinking the kool-aid, apologizing for deceptive campaigning merely because the person doing it is on "their team", and focusing on bullshiat "character" issues instead of focusing on candidates' policy platforms.

Well, lessee....

I grew up at about the same time as Barack Obama--he's three years older than I am--in a similar small town in California. Small resort towns are great for the touristi, bad for the regular residents, because the economy fluctuates so wildly from year to year. We didn't lack for the necessities, but my family struggled, since my mom was a teacher and my dad chronically unemployed at a time when the safety net for people like us was much smaller. After their divorce, my mom worked two jobs to keep me and my sisters fed and clothed.

But we weren't "poor" by any stretch of the imagination--we always had clothes and food and transportation and only had the lights cut off once. Poor, to us, were the migrant workers out in Salinas. We were middle-class, maybe lower on the spectrum. So when Michelle Obama says she understands what it's like to have to struggle to make ends meet, I can easily believe it; much more so than when ol' Mittens says he understands the plight of the working man.

And the elected republicans and the punditry might not even be so blatantly racist but they gotta attack every last little program or event she is involved in like she is doing something extremely partisan by trying to get kids to eat healthy or whatever. I've never seen a first lady's feel good programs attacked like that by people at that level of political notoriety.

It pains me to see holier than thou democrats/liberals trying to shame other people with their same political beliefs into not using an effective tool to move an agenda or push a narrative. Some people need these kinds of more simplistic contrasts or even hyperbolic verbiage to help convince them of something. if democrats refuse to court that voting bloc in the name of taking the high road all you'll have is feeling good about yourselves while the right wing steamrolls your ass and takes their agenda to the house...the executive... and the judicial...
