I despise the people who create a market for wild animals, and endangered species.

I have a parrot who is probably a 2nd or 3rd generation bred parrot. I have had him since he was 8 weeks old, but I fear the trip of his ancestors, and the deaths of those few who survived from Bolivia are not worth the companionship I have had over the last 19 years.

There's some butterfly and beetle species that went extinct because of collectors.

It's mind-boggling that we can make an insect species go extinct without trying.

All joking aside (and they are some pretty good jokes), this. What is wrong with people that they can't adopt a pet from a local shelter instead of importing something just because it looks cool? Or is this another 'keeping up with the Jones' thing? Rawr.

Possibly I am oversensitive to this tonight since my friend who now works at the Humane Society brought some rescued kittens by for me to see. They're the lucky ones, probably getting adopted by the finder when they're a bit older. Plenty of cats/dogs never find (good) homes because people suck.

It's about lion tamer's syndrome. Those people hasn't a clue how to raise an exotic animal. but they're in a pissing contest with the rest of the world trying to convince the rest of us that they're some kind of authority in exotic animal husbandry.

It seems to be the nouveau riche throughout history that are hellbent on hoarding as much of the world as they can, to prove that they can be as big and bad as the landed gentry around them, or just another symptom of the obsession that drove them to acquire so much wealth in the first place. So yes, an upper class keeping up with the jones combined with Hoarders.

I live in Las Vegas and in the past few years, we've all kinds of exotic critters get loose in my neighborhood from a white tiger to those chimpanzees to cattle.

Yeah, the Jumanji from a few weeks ago was mine.

I'm also an armchair cryptozoologist, and I've heard stories about rich guys hunting for Bigfoot and loch monsters and wolfmen for decades now.

He is not a big talker. Actually, he is very quiet as far as conures go. However, he is a little too intelligent for a small bird. He has way too complex problem solving skills. I saw him working on a quadratic equation the other day.
