Peter Jackson said he considered the theatrical versions of Lord Of The Rings as his "director's cuts." That's why the other versions are just called "extended versions."

I wouldn't mind a version of the film that had the original voice of Bane, not the ADR'd version that was in the theatrical cut. That was the thing that really bugged me in the film, that I could tell that voice was recorded in a studio.

If you care at all about movies you should own a blu ray player by now, it isn't like they are prohibitively expensive. And they play all your crappy looking dvds too.

So...there will be ANOTHER half hour training montage in a movie that already didn't need a single training montage?

To put this another way, I decline. I believe that the last live action Batman movie came out in 1992 and though there have been a lot of great cartoons since then, no one has made a Batman movie since that film. Imagine it with me. Its awesome.

In the theatrical cut less was more. What you didn't know had more of an impact. People's imaginations as to what happened to Bane was more than sufficient. That was the whole point of it. The director's cut would be more for the simpletons who don't "get it", or the fans that do, but just want more of an awesome movie.

Confabulat: There are many reasons I don't go to movie theaters anymore. I haven't stepped into a multiplex since the last Tron movie and I don't miss it, and this is just one more reason why. I already prefer watching movies at home anyway, and if they're going to not show the entire thing until it's out on Blu-Ray, why would I waste time and money in a theater?

I don't need to be the first kid on the block to see something. I'll like The Avengers just fine when I finally see it at home, and probably have a much better viewing experience.

The point of going to movie theaters seems sort of ridiculous to me now.

Avengers will suck at home, unless you have a projector and a kick ass wall screen.

Two bits won me over in that movie very early on and after that I've found very little to be lacking.

First, when the CIA guy says, "So your plan was to get caught" and Bane replies, "Of course!"... the way he says "Of course!" immediately grabbed me.

Second, when "timid maid" Selina sees that Bruce is onto her little act, and her body language smoothly changes into "Catwoman".

Movie had me right there.

Technically, yeah, he did get out of the pit, but he didn't climb out. He got carried out by Ra's. It was more "throw you into the pit that my friend got out of." Plus he had a broken back so, you know, it wasn't a bad gamble.

I know the Knightfall storyline had Bane breaking Bruce's back, but I got the idea in the movie that it was more of a slipped disk. The training montage wasn't just to heal the back, it was also Bruce getting back to form after a long layoff.

You don't heal a "slipped disk" (a misnomer to be fair) with chiropractic. That aside, if the spine actually split like that (jutting out of Bruce's back and stuff) he'd have been permanently paralyzed from the waist down. It looked like a dislocated rib to me. In any case, as long as the writer isn't a doctor, I think it was a good move to make it deliberately vague. He got a back injury, got it treated and rehabbed. I'm OK with that. What was far lazier was that Batman before the injury was set up in the beginning as a scarred, rusting has-been whose body was falling apart. Then he goes through a stupid Rocky montage and now he's better than ever? After a crippling injury no less? OK, OK, it's a comic book story. But the movie isn't shot like a comic book. So fanbois, make up your minds already.

Fact is, The Dark Knight Rises was a silly, carelessly written movie with comic-grade cheese and laughably unrealistic premises, but is shot to be all gritty and "realistic". I rank it on the same level as "Independence Day" and "Waterworld". If people enjoyed that then I'm cool with them, but the flip-flopping between "it's a comic book" and "it's realistic" is getting annoying.

That isn't what made it boring, and the disc should have captioning anyway. It was just a dumb, dumb movie. I came in with high expectations and as the silliness grew I got annoyed.

I honestly came away thinking it was Nolan's "fark you" to the whole project and its fans, and he deliberately made it stupid (but shot all serious-like) to see if anyone would notice.
