FTFA: The newly released files flesh out what Reagan only hinted at. They show that he began to report secretly to the F.B.I. about people whom he suspected of Communist activity, some on the scantiest of evidence. And they reveal that during his tenure as president of the Screen Actors Guild in the '40s and '50s, F.B.I. agents had access to guild records on dozens of actors. As one F.B.I. official wrote in a memo, Reagan "in every instance has been cooperative."

Snitches get dementia.

Ronald Reagan was a coward who snitched on his friend's Constitutional rights, and sold weapons to Iranian terrorists. History will show that Reagan is nothing more than a sad, pathetic man who sold his soul for a shot the Presidency.

Citation needed regarding the alleged previous existence of a soul.

When Reagan needed government help, he was happy to take it

So he was just like every other conservative.

He was a mediocre actor, and horrible president. He committed treason to boot. Now, even in his early days, a total asshat snitch that would do anything to gain power.

Does anyone have an idea of what a gen-u-ine J. Edgar Hoover autograph would fetch?

I have 4 of them: two letters and two signed books.

We've known about this for decades. It was part of the Red Scare. Reagan was the one who wrongfully turned in John Garfield who was so pressured he ended up committing suicide amongst many others.

Of course those were the good old days when everyone was a traitor and needed to be rooted out and destroyed.

Wow, Reagan produced a very dysfunctional family. Apparently he saw himself as so impotent to reaching out to them, he chose to have the FBI spy on his kids.

I know it causes you physical pain that Reagan is regarded so highly, but it just makes you look childish to talk all this nonsense about him. The guy that wrote this hatchet piece has a clear agenda, and still fails to make him look bad. He thought the people around him were subversives (maybe they even were) and he did what he thought was right. I can live with that.

And to this day, this is what bothers me about McCarthy, the HUAC, and all of that "Communism" bullshiat. This country s based on freedom, and if you think that being a Commie is the way to celebrate that, it is your right. I might not agree with it, but I would never support you being dragged in front of a Senate hearing, imprisoned, arrested, or blackballed for it.

Maybe I just 'heart' America more than Reagan? I obviously paid more attention in 6th grade Social Studies, that's for sure.

I wish I could use the FBI as my own personal PI service. Then again, we've discovered that Joe Arpaio is officially on the books as "for sale". I wonder what his rates are?

Outside of diehards, he isn't.

Most people are developing an understanding of what a total shiathead he was. He wasn't even leading this country in his second term, either. Is that what you're defending?

The guy that wrote this hatchet piece has a clear agenda, and still fails to make him look bad.

No fact would change you Reagan apologists' mindset. It's actually more productive to just condemn without the use of arguments, since facts mean nothing to you.

ST REAGAN! NOW WITH ALZHEIMER'S.

Reagan was everything that the current republican party claims to hate, and yet they deify him.

He pretty much invented deficit spending. He "palled around" with terrorists. He took a much more reasoned approach to taxation, despite coming up with the "trickle down" theory that modern Republicans have perverted. He signed a bill that granted amnesty to immigrants. He expanded the federal government by 300k employees. And he expanded Medicade.

Reagan is more of a commie socialist secret muslim lesbian than Obama and yet the modern Republican party worships him as a god. Farking Republican cognitive dissonance at its most blatant. Do as we say, not what we project onto others.

"That January, the F.B.I. was closing in on Joseph Bonanno, known as Joe Bananas, the head of one of New York City's five Mafia families, who owned a house in Arizona.

F.B.I. agents in Phoenix made an unexpected discovery: According to records, "the son of Ronald Reagan was associating with the son of Joe Bonnano [sic]." That is, Michael Reagan, the adopted son of Reagan and Ms. Wyman, was consorting with Bonanno's son, Joseph Jr. The teenagers had bonded over their shared love of fast cars and acting tough. "

That's okay. Jerry Colangelo has lunch with Joe Bonanno Jr at Mancuso's on 32nd St and Camelback all the time. Joey's gotta be gold.

Yeah..I can only imagine the smile on this smug hack's face when his editors greenlit this article. He spent thousands of dollars, wasted hours of court time, and the only dirt he could come up with was that they called the FBI once (as a favor) to check on their daughter. "Ha!..see he needed government help and took it!" I can only imagine the uproar if they found out he ever mailed a letter or drove on a public highway.

Ronald Reagan was a prince compared to Hoover.

J. Edgar Hoover was one of the nastiest men of the 20th century. Reagan wasn't so much nasty as a prisoner of his ideology - in other words dumb.

Well that and the fact that Reagan was a rat fink stool pigeon for the FBI during the worst of the Red Scare pogroms.

Plus the whole helping him get elected thing.

Look there's only really two types of people left in America those who know Reagan was a bad POTUS and those who believe the propaganda.

This article won't change the opinions of the former one iota and will not be acknowledged by the latter a fact for which your posts are proof.
