Not bad guesses but from what I took away from TFA, it was just that 2008 was the inevitable endgame of racial equality, mixed with 8 years of the liberal media machine working up a vitriolic lathering hatred of Bush. Any liberal could have won, but Obama being black meant that he was gonna rocket through that glass ceiling and Lincoln himself couldn't have stopped it. (TFA actually did say even Lincoln couldn't have done it, because he'd have been labeled racist) Presumably, with all this librul momentum, Hillary would have had a similar effect; being a woman, it'd represent the endgame of gender equality instead of racial equality. Therefore, since he was politically predisposed to win handily, it wasn't a fair contest for the GOP.
