Nerds = Weird

That's what I'm picking up from reading those horrid comments. Farkers are MUCH more clever.

All of those slides, all of those chances and not one witty original joke. Did these reporters find the internet last week?

Mentat: Nothing will ever top Triumph.

And that.

I repeatedly gagged but all I could think about the whole time I flipped through that was my old friend Paul's morbid fatty frat-boy truism "Puss is puss."

Having come from visiting a friend at a furry con this weekend, I can safely say that star wars nerds have nothing on the emotionally "special" people I saw there.

Dude, you're not kidding. I had a fourty year old man come up and try to hug me because I had a paramedic shirt on.

I've jumped away from people wielding knives slower than that guy.

Dude, I've seen nerds take the piss out of themselves better than that. At Gen Con, a group of gamers is called a stink. I've seen t-shirts that say, "Achievement Unlocked: Went Outside." I've seen jokes about soap.

It doesn't matter if it is or isn't.

We here on Fark are likely quite low on the social totem pole. But, we're also not teenagers and should be able to recognize this pecking order garbage.
Furries and Star Wars people can do what ever they want as long as they're not hurting anyone, and you're not better than them.
You are not better than them.

Trying waaaaay to hard. Especially recycling that photo 7 times grasping at straws to come up with Mark Hamill jokes that were old in 1990.

I've known plantar warts that are better than a bunch of childish adults dressing up and playing pretend-for-reals in public then getting their spandex in a knot whenever someone sensible calls them out for it.

Outside of a pantomime there's never a good excuse for enabling this sort of behaviour.

Yeah, WTH? The news station that allows Chunk Beefsteak to post and comment like that is a reflection on the station. I would think you'd want to alienate people like pedophiles and necrophiliacs, not the people that could be doing your camerawork, editing or IT. Although, as a former cameraman, you do get treated like a dog for the most part.

...right... that's what that is.. not enabling each other's dysfunctional coping mechanisms... "socialising". :/

The celebration of infantile behaviour is a growing issue. Having to deal with these children in professional relationships is an issue. Supporting their "right" to continue to behave like entitled children is an issue.

Call it what you like, it is what it is. A bunch of infantile throwbacks who have completely failed to mature mentally. I get that this is a growing market but that is hardly a positive outcome.

Disagree with one detail: we here on Fark are from every level on the social totem pole. We look down on those who they are better than others. Means they realise how the best they can hope for is to one day have Al Bundy's life

Alderran, wampa the butt hurt folks are missing the point that whoever is doing the commentary, which I'm giving an 8/10 with Triumph being 10/10 is at least as big of a nerd as the folks in the costumes. I'll give him extra credit for not going straight to "Bobba Fett meet Bobba Fatt" for that 400 pound guy. He could have thrown in some more stormtrooper Barbis and metal bikini Leias though.

I mean I am in total agreement with you. Why can't they just talk about football or something like a normal person? I try to talk to these guys about how we did at the game and it was great they we beat those guys. I'd ask them to come tailgating with us every weekend, but they just end up wasting time doing something stupid like going to play drress up somewhere. And all of the useless, made up facts that they know. I try engage them about how the baseball season is going and wondering if our current crop of hitters will beat the averages set by the champion team we had in 1983. All they want to talk about is if one ship is faster in hyperwarp or whatever.

Those people just need to grow up and focus on adult things that matter.

I'm a musician. A few years ago, I did a Star Wars symphony show and a bunch of these people showed up and did their thang. Do ya know what these losers were doing? They were..... raising money for the local chidlrens hospital. Apparently, they like to raise money for food banks and charity. How pathetic of them.

There we go making assumptions. Sports fans are hardly any better - especially those sufficiently divorced from reality they imagine playing dress-up and screaming profanities at strangers is normal.

Musikslayer: Apparently, they like to raise money for food banks and charity. How pathetic of them.

By inference this is apparently a function which couldn't be acheived without playing at Captain Hero Pants and Maiden of Terrible Hairdo? Really?

I won tickets to celebration so I went with my girlfriend. We are casual star wars fans and we enjoyed it enough that we went both Saturday and Sunday. Everyone was nice and looked like they were having fun. Lots of good looking couples and cute families. Great costumes and those droids the fans built to race were amazing.

Met some actors and got great pictures. Fun times were had. Surprisingly there was not one attractive slave Leia. Lots of cute girls but all the leias were Meh to hideous. Hottest girl there was dressed as a slutty wampa.

I don't think you understand the issue here. The issue is not that they're trekkies, or bronies, or furries, or insert-X-fandom here.. (I overlap with two of those fandoms. Wild guess which. Star Trek sucks, though.) (/flamesuit on) The issue is not that they tabletop RP, fursuit, cosplay, or even LARP.

The issue is that socially maladjusted manchildren (and womenchildren) use being a part of the fandom to excuse vile and stupid behaviors. I've heard everything from pedophilia, to generally being a maladjusted dick justified because they are a part of x-fandom. That's what people hate.

People don't like unpopular or taboo fetishes thrown in their faces with a "get used to it" attitude (Furry Fandom is highly guilty of this - especially with it's niches like Sonic Fandom (Chrischan, anyone?) and the Otherkin. (People who ACTUALLY believe they are a animal.) ), nor do people like it when others act like maladjusted little shiats in public.

On the other hand, you're a taco. Who cares what you think. Get in my belly.
