(TSN)   Roberto Luongo isn't saying he wants to be traded to Florida. Or even implying he wants to be traded to Florida. He's just talking about being traded to Florida, that's all   (tsn.ca) divider line 35

If that happens, can we keep the pattern going and undo his trade from the Islanders too?

/yes, I'm still bitter about that trade 12 years later

I will say that it's pretty rich that someone from Ohio says that somewhere else is a shiathole.

/ if the trade happens, I can't wait to wear my "8 past Luongo" shirt to Bruins/Panthers games

If this were the last 3 years of his contract I could see this happening.

Now....would he settle for Tampa? Or are they committed to Lindback?

One thing I will say about Luongo is that he has handled the entire situation with Vancouver giving Schneider his job and the trade issue very well. Not a shred of bitterness. At least, nothing public.

To be honest, Florida got pretty good mileage last year out of Jose Threeormore & Clemmenson, plus Jacob Markström looks to be the real deal whenever they would decide to hand the reigns over to him.

So, explain to me why Florida would trade for Luongo, exactly?

2012-09-04 11:03:23 PM
After the bullshiat he pulled before leaving the Panthers the first time. No. He had a chance to be here and play here. But he said no, took is ball and went to Vancouver. Beside already having two capable goaltenders, that together get paid less than a single Luongo, we wouldn't be able to afford the good squad that we have now. There is no way a trade for Luongo would be a positive for the Team. Don't squander the advancement the team has made for itself to go back to the old that didn't work.

In hindsight the team would've been worse off if we had kept Luongo, in foresight the team would be much worse off if we got Luongo.

Not chasing the hardware anymore, is he? He's got the money.... got the contract... maybe catch some sun rays. No offense Cats fans, not quite sold on the plan for the future by Mr. Blackhawks....yet. But if he does go, it wouldn't be too wild to picture a Florida team coming out of nowhere in a couple of years like the Lightning did in '04, with Luongo providing the Khabibulin role.

Well look at it this way. Supposing we actually have hockey this year Florida is in a very tough situation. There are several teams from last season that should be in the playoff hunt, if not outright in the post-season, that missed last year. Carolina is going to be better as will Tampa Bay. Buffalo should be better and yes even Toronto should be better this season. That's four teams, two of which are divisional opponents. Florida may very well have to win out the division just to make the playoffs, so getting a top goaltender to man the pipes would have to be a priority.

I don't think they will, that's just one line of thinking on the subject.

And you think Luongo still qualifies?

Okay, I'll grant he's still good in the regular season. But I don't think I've seen another goalie collapse more totally than he does under pressure.

Old news to Canucks nation.

Gillis is in no rush to move either goalie and doesn't have to do jack squat until a certain center-of-the-universe team with no goaltending, a mindless fanbase and a nervous GM with his neck in a noose and a track record of four consecutive no-playoff finishes gets a little squeamish at his opening month 3-10 record and feels the need to pull the trigger to save the season and gives up too much for Lu. That's what's going to happen.

But would that be good or bad for the Canucks? ...after all, look what it did to the Flames.

Those pics aren't new, and stop enabling attention whores.

I can't say where Luongo will end up, or what team needs him. Plenty of places could use him, but with that contract and questions regarding his level of play, it's a risk for anyone. Certainly Florida could benefit from the trade, but if I were their GM I'd probably not pull the trigger. Same for Toronto, Tampa or any place else where there have been rumors of interest. Which I think is why Luongo is still a Canuck. No one is eager to take him on. I mean, I can't imagine they're waiting for the price to come down - I don't think there's a huge demand for him, and with that contract his price couldn't be very high. Vancouver is desperate to sell, nobody is desperate to buy.

Seemingly no rush, though. With the way CBA negotiations are going, everyone might have a lot of time to make the trade.

Frankly, it sounds like Luongo is being a big crybaby. I thought he was good, but not THAT good where he gets to dictate where he plays. No one wants a drama llama on their team, especially one that would essentially put a $5.3 million dollar a year weight on the team's back. Hell, even Patrick Roy didn't get to dictate where he went, he just said that he would not play another game in Montreal.

So how's your anti-semitic, homophobic, bigoted Tea Partier goaltender that decided to take the year off and screw his team doing? Has Thomas got his Colorado Doom Bunker ready yet?

1. Don't know.
2. Don't care.

Most Boston fans just want Timmy to shut up and play goal. We'd be OK with that. Perfectly fine, in fact. I personally think he has hunkered down in his cave until Dec 21, 2012 passes. By all means, he's entitled to his end-time prophecies and ancient aliens conspiracy theories. After that though, he needs to strap on his pads and get his ass back in the crease.

Make sure Lou gets some of these for his transcontinental road-trip.

I certainly did. I incorrectly assumed you were still bitter about 2011. Thomas has definitely worn out his welcome as far as his personality and convictions go. But if he can shut up, continue to step up in big games, and maintain a top tier GAA and S%, people will be quiet about it.

swahnhennessy: Vancouver is desperate to sell, nobody is desperate to buy.

Vancouver is not desperate to sell. They just have a surplus in goalkeeping and feel like selling off some excess backstoppage. There are plenty of teams who need a quality netminder (philly lol), but there's no urgency to make moves at this point considering no one's sure if we're even going to have a season.

Like I said: Wait until the season starts (if there is one). See which trigger-happy GM panics first after an awful start and fires his coach or his goalie or something. You'll see some offers for Lu then. But nothing's happening until a new CBA is signed.

That and the whole "I'll wait until everything is signed this time" thing is why I'm not commenting on anything yet.

As for Lu- maybe he should've spent the offseason working on how not to choke in the playoffs instead of playing poker. That is all.
