(Wonkette)   It turns out Hurricane Leslie is just the remnants of a giant "woosh" that happened when the meaning of Labor Day went over Eric Cantor's head   (wonkette.com) divider line 78

InmanRoshi: dericwater: InmanRoshi: Baby Face Fister: How about the people who voted this shiatcock into office? I'm just curious. He and boner need to be put on a slow boat to Devils Island and take Mitch "the turtle" McConnell with you.

His district houses most of the nation's major defense contractors. 80% white and has been voting solid Republican since 1970. His job is to bring military pork to his district, and he's pretty good at it. You'll be hard pressed to find a Congressman who has pushed for more government spending. He actually voted NO against regulations to limit no bid defense contracts.

So there's a black-hole of taxpayer funds going into this district? All based on fear, uncertainty and doubt? That's a effin' lot, Mistah Cantor.

Even besides defense, he's pushed a lot of wasteful government spending. He voted against Medicare being able to negotiate lower drug rates for seniors which would have saved the government about $50-100 BILLION ... .of course, Big Pharma filled his campaign coffers with about $168k to get that kind of service.

That's some serious amplification of money. Send in a little blip of $170K and out pops $50B. I wish my transistor amps for my stereo can make that jump. He's the best government money can buy.

Also add that Cantor's wife is Diane Cantor, who ran Virginia Private Bank & Trust, which was basically a hedge fund for Virginia's Uber-Rich ... and got about $267 million in TARP Bailouts.

Today, we celebrate those who have taken a risk, worked hard, built a business and earned their own success.

Cantor can't figure out why there's a holiday next month for the capital of Ohio

FarkedOver: I just find it funny that workers across the world recognize something that happen in the U.S. and it goes unnoticed in the U.S. Just strikes me as weird.

We just commemorate the Pullman strikes instead of Haymarket. Not that any normal person could tell you that.

FarkedOver: Why can't Americans celebrate labor day with the rest of the workers worldwide on May 1?

We needed a late summer holiday....

Cantor, and all his ilk in Congress, are guilty of treason - they deliberately worked for the downfall of the U.S. economy, government and for the impoverishment of the average citizen. What's the penalty for treason these days? They did more damage to the U.S. economy than any of the folks we are trying to kill - Iraq, Taliban, even Bin Laden probably. What's the penalty for treason these days anyway?

I live in Derpistan. The conservatives here have completely turned Labor Day into a military holiday.

When I was in my 20's, I worked for 2.75 (dating myself) an hour, a 50 hour work week, as a choker-setter and log bucker for a small lumber crew. From 29-59 I worked in a law office, mostly just using my incredibly skilled fingers creating lawyer paper (typed in the 150-200 wpm range). I made 7 an hour to start and 50 an hour at the end (of course, by then I'd also become the admin for the office computer network (Novell certified). Which job do you think I had more fun at (hint, it was the one that had pretty much a daily bee stink or six). Now I'm semi-retired working as a substitute teacher and tending to my farmette. I like instilling work ethic values to kids. It's a lot like beating your head against the wall - I like it because it feels so good when I stop. Still trying to decide (at age 61) if I should get a license. If I was sure I could teach history, I'd do it. But I'm more likely to get a job teaching special education, which is less appealing.

*blink* Is Cantor really so disdainful of Unions (and their voting members) that he's happy to give each and every one of them a great big fat middle finger for Labor Day??? Incredible.

Next Martin Luther King Jr Day: "On this special holiday it's really appropriate to take a minute to remember all the Republican legislators who worked so hard for racial equality."

I'm pretty sure there was a topic last year where someone was insistent that Labor Day in generations past was essentially "Boss Appreciation Day" and that people spent the day off counting their blessings on having a kind Job Creator for their livelihood.

2012-09-04 08:49:24 PM

fenianfark: From Wikipedia: Following the deaths of a number of workers at the hands of the U.S. military and U.S. Marshals during the Pullman Strike, the United States Congress unanimously voted to approve rush legislation that made Labor Day a national holiday; President Grover Cleveland signed it into law a mere six days after the end of the strike.

Those workers were obviously wealthy capitalists, fighting the oppressive marginal tax rates that Uncle Sam was imposing on them.

Pfft, the workers only died - middle management had to get their secretaries to type up a job ad to get replacements for them after the strike ended - think of the terrible burden they had to carry that day.

Oh, Cantor knows what Labor Day is about.

He's just an asshole.

Damn. I agree, guys, the comment was ridiculous, but I've read most of this thread and no one's talking about the real issue: He didn't use the Oxford comma.

Ambiguity in language is destroying this country. Does Eric Cantor love his parents, Ayn Rand and God, or does he love his parents, Ayn Rand, and God? How the fark are we to ever know if he keeps up with this linguistic chicanery?
