I dunno about that, I've never heard of him and I've been a poltical junkie for a long time. this "top aide" of his apparently started in the WH as an unpaid intern, did a stint in the counsel's office, and eventually became a "special assistant". An actual "Top Aide" would have job titles like, say, "Chief of Staff" "National security adviser", "Chairman of his ree-election campaign"

If Romney has to rely on the: "I'm voting Romney because it will help Hillary in 2016" vote, he might have a bad day in November.

Three statisticals..

1. 30% 100% of Bill Clinton's shadow political operatives/Hillary supporters for Romney
2. 1 in 7 undecided
3. Silent Majority

Romney wins. You guys are gonna be sooo pissed off.

good jorb politico, ignore the really fascinating article about how Obama and Clinton have gone from enemies to cautious friends (based on the arc of the 2 mens political careers) and focus on the throw away final sentence (based on rumor) that was put in there to show that they aren't necessarily bussom buddies just yet. mighty fine reporting.

I noticed that too. But the reason they ignored it is because they have their own crappy article on Obama-Clinton. It's down there under related articles.

Also, if you read the entire New Yorker article on Bill and Obama, throughout they show Bill and his operatives doing things for political reasons and so when you get to the last paragraph where it says that the guy Brand will be voting for Romney, it reads very sarcastically. But only if you read the whole article.

really? that is what you got from the New Yorker article?
"Some of their advisers concede that the two men don't really like each other. They have openly disagreed on policy issues and political strategy, and the acrimony generated during the 2008 Democratic primaries, when Hillary Clinton ran against Obama for the nomination, has yet to fully dissipate."

Wouldn't Hillary just showing up help her chances in 2016? It's not like there are a ton of Democratic household names ready to take over in 2016. Maybe some will make themselves known this week but really all she has to do is say the word and the nomination is hers.

Well, that would explain Clinton's support of Romney's "sterling" record at Bain.

That, and also because he has a good assessment of how the economy and business works.

And now it's just been debunked:

There shouldn't be any doubt that I will vote for Barack Obama," said Band, pointing out that his support dates back to the spring of 2008,

Assuming Hilliary ran in 2016, it would be to her advantage to not run against an incumbent President. It would also be to her advantage to have the current President of the United States pushing the fark out of her, as opposed to one that has been out of the public eye for 4 years.

I bet the comment was made tounge and cheek. First, no one wants to run against an incumbent. That's why the Dems got stuck with Kerry in '08 and Romney in '12. Second, as cynical as the Clinton people may be, I don't think they want to give the GOP control of the White House, especially when there is a chance they could take over Congress

Shhhh. Let them run with it. Hillary wants to be a part of the losing administration so that she can be called out for the "failed" policies of the one term President when she finally does run. Makes perfect sense.

Fixed for accuracy.

Wiki:

Douglas J. Band serves as counselor to President Clinton. He began working in the White House in 1995 working with Cheryl Mills as an unpaid intern in the White House Counsel's office. Band has been with President Clinton since then. Prior to his role as Counselor to President Clinton, Doug served in the White House Counsel's office for 4 years, becoming a Special Assistant to the President before he was made one of the youngest Deputy Assistants ever to serve a President. Band concluded his final year in the White House in the Oval Office as the President's Aide.

He was "the President's Aide" in 1999. He's only 40, which means he was 21 in 1993. However, the article breathlessly implies if he was instrumental in Clinton's presidency. Who gives a shiat if he gave Clinton advice after he left office?

No wonder we haven't heard of him - I don't know who Gore's "top confidant' is either (or Bush's, for that matter) and for good reason - NO ONE GIVES A SHIAT.

Let's get Carter's post-presidential advisers on the phone and ask who they're voting for.

2012-09-04 02:21:56 PM

tenpoundsofcheese: Well, that would explain Clinton's support of Romney's "sterling" record at Bain.

From that same interview:

Unlike some fellow Democrats, Clinton acknowledged Romney's time at Bain Capital formed a "good business career." He also acknowledged that the nature of private equity meant some companies inevitably fail.

"There is a lot of controversy about that," Clinton told guest host Harvey Weinstein, who has raised millions of dollars for Obama's campaign. "But if you go in and you try to save a failing company, and you and I have friends here who invest in companies, you can invest in a company, run up the debt, loot it, sell all the assets, and force all the people to lose their retirement and fire them."

Which is what Romney did quite often at Bain.
