Cool idea, too bad your video sucks.

/they have one of these at Great America with a straight down drop. All I remember from it is getting blasted in the face from the water that was feeding the slide, then I was already at the bottom. My seven-year-old failed to cross his feet properly and learned firsthand why it was called the "Mega-Wedgie".

I think the Wisconsin Dells "looping" waterslide starts like this as well.

This is in Dubai. The trap door obviously leads to an "interrogation" room somewhere so you can be waterboarded by other riders pissy water-slide water.

2012-09-04 11:12:34 AM
You have to be fully clothed to ride this?

Its a good idea. This will keep idiots from flailing their arms around or trying to be show-offs.
If you don't do what the guy with the lever says, you don't go down the slide.

They've had this at Wet N' Wild Orlando for over 10 years now. Much, much scarier when the slide isn't covered.

The splashdown at the end looks like it would put your nuts up around your tonsils.

How about one that has a loop in it?

Yeah, I tried that slide ONCE.

They have one of these at Water Country USA in Williamsburg as well

I climbed into one of these in the Dells this last summer. That was the day I decided to admit that I'm old.

There's a water slide in Cologne that has this - but it loops the loop, too.

For the first 90 seconds I thought I'd clicked the wrong link.

I love water slides, but haven't had an opportunity to go on anything wild yet, sadly

2012-09-04 01:31:42 PM
I thought the trap door was going to be halfway down the slide before I clicked, but that's cool too, I guess.

There's one on a cruise ship. Not as vertical, though.

that's what i was thinking as well. like sometimes the door opens and you fall into a different pool or something.

Some of the seven emirates are more strict than others: Sharjah and Ajman, for instance, strictly enforces Islamic law, while Dubai and Abu Dhabi - both with thriving, mainstream tourist industries - are more relaxed.

From your linked article.

Dubai is very westernized.

Yes

I've never been that far east, however that slide's reputation has made it this far west.

Admittedly, the video is better when featuring a bikini.

That's it? Saw that on Travel Channel like a month ago... I was hoping for something more along the lines of you're heading down the slide and a trap door randomly opens to dump you onto a different slide.

Yeah I don't get it. At least have the upper part transparent. But on the mega tall open slides one of the thrills is the feeling that somehow you're going to fall off the slide to your death, especially in the first second or two.

"Westernized"? Well, when one compares to other Arab nations, sure. However, jail time for flipping the bird? No public displays of affection? Etc? I'd still count that as a barbaric shiathole. Damn it man, we have a RIGHT to be rude bastards! Anything else is uncivilized.

Thanks for all the links to places that aren't oppressive shiatholes that have the waterslide trapdoor.

I guess the funny part to me is as a quiet person who doesn't like eating in front of strangers, I'd probably fit in quite well in Dubai. Too bad I don't know jack about business to make any money there.

2012-09-04 10:03:14 PM
Lame:

1) The slide is enclosed.

2) There appears to be a countdown to the drop.

3) A trap door it a surprise, hence the "trap" part; I was under the (unbelievably retarded/cool) impression that somewhere along the ride was a trap that would just open up and send you flying into a pool without warning.

Yes, westernized. The rich don't have to worry about any of those laws you mention.

Awesome video. It's 2:46 long, and we see the trap door for all of about 0.5 seconds. Thanks!

It's like ejaculate but with humans.

Was kinda disappoint, thought there was going to be a surprise trap door mid slide that drops you in a pool or something...

Until I actually WTFV, I was envisioning a surprise trap door at some point during the slide's length. Arguably more fun.

I also thought how much better it could be if their trap door opened randomly 1-10 seconds after you were "mounted" in the start capsule. "3, 2, 1, GO" is no fun.

Instead of a countdown the voice should relay safety instructions. At the end say, "...and the most important thing you must do to avoid severe blunt force trauma or loss of limb is..." DROP!
