I still irrationally hate the video for that song. Still.

Check to see if Ben Weasel was sick five years ago because whatever it is, Billie Joe Armstrong probably has it now.

This band has gotten progressively lamer as the years go by but Dookie is a classic and a GREAT workout album.

I dunno... the Broadway show won a Tony; that's gotta be sick for royalties. This might be a legitimate "oops I ate bad Fugu" or "oops I at heroin" moment.

Hard to believe almost 20 years ago I was riding around after school in the back of a hatchback Escort doing jello shots and smoking grass to Dookie.

These guys should have hung it up well over a decade ago. It's far better to burn out than to fade away, and they just keep fading and fading and fading.

Well, slightly less than a decade ago. They were fading away a decade ago, but then the gasoline tank that was American Idiot got thrown on the fire. But I haven't paid much attention ever since.

Also, their live shows were farking incredible. Not sure if that's still the case.

I was a pre-Dookie kid, riding this:

I was pretty much done after Dookie, because everything sounded the same after it.

I argue that Nimrod is a great album. They put a lot into it and a lot of hits came out of it. I don't count good riddance as I don't like the song personally, but even what is normally considered "filler" is pretty good quality. They are a different band there and change their sound again for Warning, which some fans like the slower rock. It was okay on my ears, but holy crap going full on rock opera alienated their fan base.

Switching to only wearing black, white, and red is so much less punk than everything they did before. Whatever the hell their pointless political message was diminished the quality of music in their fan base's ears.

BJA can only sing like 3 notes, so it was bound to get old anyways

This entirely. I like a good political message. Someone's gonna make fun of my for it, but I farking love Rage Against the Machine for it. However, American Idiot just came off like a bunch of 15 year olds who had just watched Bowling for Columbine and wanted to be activists..

This. I didn't even mind American Idiot because I saw it as a return to punks politically aware roots of the late 70's. But that should have been it.

They really jumped the shark when they did a song with not one but TWO guitar solos. Billy Zoom frowns upon those shenanigans.

Yeah, I hated that too. Dookie is a masterpiece, but American Idiot lowered my IQ by 50 points.

I might be in the minority here - or even all by myself - but I love Green Day. They are one of the bands that defined my generation. If you can't accept this you're just a jaded chump. However, this should serve as a warning to Billie Joe. He's not getting any younger, and his body probably experienced a 21st century breakdown. With all the touring and the work on a new album, I wouldn't be shocked if he's a total basket case. Still, I'm glad he got out of the hospital before the lobotomy, and will not be spending his last night on earth any time soon. The honor guard can put away their 21 guns, it seems we won't be reading Billie Joe's American eulogy any time soon (hopefully this will quell any mass hysteria). He should probably take a bit of a holiday to recuperate; his wife is waiting and home and she can give him a proper homecoming to really make him feel like a king for a day. As for the short-term disruption to their tour schedule - their fans will still be waiting.

I started reading that and then around the 3rd line it hit me. Basket case drove it home.
Props for not using time of your life.
