Or maybe you just have exquisite taste.

Why mention the 5th string spikes? That just seems weird to me.

Years ago I had a roomate who picked a banjo all the time. Drove me nuts. Doinka doinka doinka, hours on end.
One night I picked him up in my car and he had his banjo. So I said let's get some beers I'll buy. Off we go. I park and purposely leave the back door open.
3 hours later we return and there are two more banjos in the backseat.

How can you tell if the stage is level? If the banjo player drools out of both sides of his mouth.

The 5th string spikes are generally added as a customization, so would be an identifying mark.

Univox five-string banjo - $350.00

Found these for sale online. Not top of the line, but not cheap either.

Yeah, I've got three. But he already found the banjo. And besides, how many people would see them and know that they're little model railroad spikes?

Seems like they could have picked a couple better identifiers. I would have no idea what a Keith tuner was if I didn't play bluegrass.

In my little neck of Appalachia I'd be really surprised if a pawn shop worker did not know about model railroad spikes and banjos, but I can see where that might be common knowledge in Florida

Fair point. Where I live, more than a few people have said 'what the hell is that?' when they see me playing.

That should have read, "I can see where that might not be common knowledge in Florida"

Came to say good banjos aren't cheap.

Q: What's the best pick-up to put on a banjo?

A: A F-350.

Q: What is the definition of perfect pitch?

A: Tossing an accordion in a dumpster and having land on a banjo.

/here all week, veal, ....etc.

Why would you want a banjo when there are perfectly good bagpipes all over the place?

Now it's just a banjo that I used to own...
