(AZCentral)   Vets are seeing more and more cases of dogs eating late-summer mushrooms before freaking out and vomiting and crapping all over themselves. Sounds like a typical Dave Matthews Band concert   (azcentral.com) divider line 50

OK Subby. I have been to see DMB and I did not witness one instance of this.

/although each time it was in Canada, so yeah, ok ... maybe elsewhere

Maybe I'm just tired, but my brain got hooked on the word "Vets". I kept thinking "Hat do dogs eating 'shrooms have to do with the military"?

"What".... Not "Hat"

That's some fine journalism there, Lou. What kind of mushrooms? "Toxic" tells your readers nothing.

I hope it isn't amanita. I hate dealing with those. You spend a lot of effort detoxing them, you throw every bag of plasma you can find at them, and if they ate enough, they still die.

2012-09-04 09:00:29 AM
The dogs must be so lonely and bored that they've turned to drug abuse the while away the time. shiatting yourself certainly is more productive than waiting.

2012-09-04 09:02:04 AM
I had to laugh at this because my eldest went to a DMB concert and called me the next day talking about her date doing 'shrooms and flipping out.

/laughed at the headline. Didn't laugh at the call.

Area veterinarians are advising pet owners to remove mushrooms from their yards to avoid a potential run-in with a toxic variety.

Nice scorched-earth policy there.

In other news, some plants are toxic and you should just spray herbicide everywhere.

I've been to many DMB shows. Not much in the way of psychedelic drugs, but holy crap is there an abundance of drunken frat boys. I don't understand- they've been around forever, yet their fan base remains asshole college kids... it's the one major problem with their shows.

Well, maybe if we treated the PTSD, vets would stop seeing shiat that isn't happening.

Magic shrooms pop up in my yard fairly often (saw some last Friday). I know what they are, but I don't mess with them (it would be weird to trip around kids).

Dogs, on the otherhand, will eat them no problem (not good). However, I wish the rabbits in my yard would eat them - seeing a bunch of rabbits flipping out would be hilarious!

That's a Coprinus genus Inky Cap or Tippler's bane. Although edible and supple before it matures and disintegrates into an inky goo it cannot be consumed with alcohol up to 48 hours after ingestion as it causes a variety of side-effects and used to be given to chronic alcoholics in the older times to dissuade them from drinking.

For some reason I got "vets" as an abbreviation for veterans in my head, and then I got to "dogs" and was thinking "Strange headline, but that is a nickname some people use for Marines." So, yeah... until I clicked on the link I was imagining a bunch of new recruits in Quantico getting sick in some kind of survival training.

2012-09-04 12:37:53 PM
I read the headline 5 times as "veterans of war are seeing more and more cases of dogs..." and thought "Damn, they must have lots of shrooms where vets live".

Doh

And not the shiatty music??

I'm not really even a fan of this band but I find it amusing to hear all the "shiatty jam band for college hipsters not relevent since "97" dismissals for the only band other than Metallica to put out 5 consecutive #1 albums.
So apparently their fanbase is just a tad wider than that.

DMB is a jam band, but a bit more chad-ish than String Cheese Incident or Phish. Regardless of how much I hate their particular thing, 3 hours of actual music from a concert is a GOOD THING.

I don't know how many big shows you go to, but it seems sometimes we're fortunate to be given a 60-70 minute performance. I'd much rather go to a 5 hour party for the same price as a 3 hour one.

What was the last decade bands made music you liked? It seems impossible to have never heard of Dave Matthews, even if you absolutely hate his music. If I'm being trolled...fine. I'm tired.

My guess would be Fly Agaric, which isn't acutually an agaric mushroom, and yes, it's in the Amanita family (A. Muscaria). Fortunately, not as strong as the Death Cap or the Destroying Angel.
