Why don't they just have both conventions in Vegas from now on? The city is literally built to handle them. Or if it needs to be somewhere stodgy and serious Chicago (D) and Houston/Dallas (R)? Trying to score votes this way just seems more trouble than its worth.

2012-09-04 10:40:47 AM

Lost Thought 00: Charlotte is not equipped to handle this convention, it was chosen because the Democrats need to win this state.

And Tampa was?

Actually, it was. Everyone greatly exaggerated the size of the convention and its attendance numbers. There were no lines to get a lap dance.

I like how that picture didn't even have anything clever about Debbie Wasserman Schultz. Just her name.

And that it put in the forefront a woman who didn't do anything at all and whose testimony and the reaction basically started recognition of the GOP war on women. So... keep running with that.

I can't speak for the delegates or ther foreign dignitaries, but many of the journalists I have spoken with here are appalled at the accommodations in Charlotte to which they were assigned by the DNC. National Review was assigned to two Knights Inn properties. Everyone who saw them fled immediately across state lines to an available Marriott in South Carolina rather than stay there.

That doesn't even make sense, since the thing Sandra Fluke was talking about was a *friend* who needed birth control for medical reasons.

Man. The DNC bringing Sandra Fluke to talk is gonna tweak the republican outrage machine again, isn't it? They're gonna start saying stupid crap, and then they're going to blame the democrats for making them do so.

I'm surprised. Tampa is pretty much an extension of New York anymore and therefore...fairly Jewish.

But of course the convention was full of non-Tampaians, so that might've been why.

Wow. Go for the low-hanging fruit, eh?

Especially coming from someone who in their profile says they live in PA. Their state liquor board makes ours seem sane. Now excuse me, I'm going to go to my local grocery store and buy a single can of beer and a bottle of wine without having to use a breathalyzer.

I always thought our "not before noon on a Sunday" law was nuts, until I went to Massachusetts and realized this supposedly progressive state outlawed Sunday sales, period.

You must be pretty young, you've only been able to buy liquor on Sunday in Pa for the last 5 years or so... and even then, only at certain stores.

You misread- I live in Charlotte.

I think it's because she had the audacity to point out that not everyone on birthcontrol was a promiscious slut DARING to try and deny god's will! But that some were on it for medical reasons. Some were even on it *because* they wanted to be able to have kids someday.

I try not to-I'd like to say it's largely because I feel hate to be a fairly worthless and poisonous emotion, something that slowly causes you to think of the object of your hatred as things, and not people....

But honestly, I largely don't hate them because it's too much effort, and they're really not worth it. (though I do also believe hate is bad). I am, however, incredibly ANGRY at them. Also pity. A lot of pity.

You'll find your hate soon enough. Sometimes, it's natural and normal and healthy to hate a group based on their actions. To not feel hate for some people is abnormal.

Probably, but I'm still going to try to resist it-it's a very negative emotion, and just too easily leads to horrible things, I guess? It is not an emotion I enjoy.

Not-hating being abnormal doesn't really bug me, though. I accepted I was insane when I entered grad school for physics. =) Normal and I parted ways looooooonnnggggg ago.

Emotions are neither negative, nor positive, it's the given situation and our reaction to that situation that colors the emotions as negative/positive.

Seeing puppies makes me happy = Healthy.

Seeing puppies get turned into asphalt makes me happy = Unhealthy

Seeing a strange man give my wife a hug makes me jealous = healthy

Seeing my wife give her brother a hug makes me jealous = Unhealthy

Though I admit I disagree with Yoda that anger always leads to hatred. Anger can be a very positive thing! Channeled properly, it can motivate people to do amazing things. (Chanelled improperly, granted, VERY BAD THINGS).

Fair enough-I suppose I just disagree about hatred being healthy (anger, dislike, disgust-healthy and fine. Hatred, that's another beast altogether, I think!), but I'm not sure we're going to convince each other here!

The GOP is in such a sad state of affairs. They have the absolute worst candidate in the past 100 years or so, and very little left of any semblance of sanity on policy. Given the shape of the current economy, they should be winning Florida, PA, and OH, as well as Va. and NC. So, even with the Jim Crow like voter suppression going full force, they're likely going to lose in November. At that point, the far right will surely explode into something resembling Derpageddon. I fear for Ted Nugent.

Seriously, these morons were booked at a 'Knights Inn' and thought it would be decent? Aren't those rooms 49.95 or something?
