Baloney! Romney cleaned up, he had the highest polling ever recorded by Gallup after his speech in.. *checks category* oh. Well, never mind then.

How did they get to 40%? Did they really include Republicans as part of the National Adults?

/I respect Bob Dole. He is a damn fine man who gave all for his country. It's just another case of voting not against the man, but against the party he stands for and what they want to do to the country I love. First vote and it was for Clinton, for the same reason I'll be voting for Obama, he didn't screw up anything big and has done nothing to merit being fired.
//Wish Bob Dole many happy erections and a peaceful death when the Grim Reaper calls. He is a great American.

again - this just confirms that the people who are going to vote Republican are going to vote Republican even if they admit Romney is a bad speaker. Hell, I suspect that most Republicans admit they don't like Romney at all. that's not what's driving the GOP forward right now - they know Romney is a bad choice. it's just that the GOP rank and file have been taught to hate Obama more than anything in the world.

I was out of town last week, away from all devices, media outlets, radio, everything.

I sorta gathered that his speech was sub par (from this link) and that nobody showed up. How few people attended the RNC? I saw a blurb from Nate Silver that he did get a 4 point bump, but figured it'd wash after the DNC. What else did I miss?

2012-09-04 12:15:02 AM
I listened to the speech on the radio. It wasn't bad. Empty platypuses and all that. Then I saw highlights on tv, and it was VERY different. He looked so damn smug I wanted to punch him. That guy goes giddy huffing his own farts.

/yeah, platypus. Did that on purpose.

This isn't even a dead cat bounce. It's more like a dead cat thump. Good thing the GOP has their voter suppression machine humming.

The only thing I had against Dole (besides being a repuclican) is the fact that he wanted to blame the mean old democrats for not working with him. I thought as his party's leader he would have realized that this just made him look like a failed leader, therefore not worthy of the highest office in the land.

He's still a damn site better than the "leadership" that is in today's GOP. I bet he cringes every time he hears Romney speak.

I think that even the people that wanted Romney to do well recognized an insincere snow job when they heard one. It's like listening to the finance guy at the car dealership trying to sell you the overpriced extended warranty, you know he's pulling your chain and he knows it too but godammitsomuch he's rehearsed the thing forever and he's going to give you the full pitch if it kills him.

You have to think about what Bob Dole would actually say here. I saw Bob Dole during the '96 campaign. He was... interesting, but the thing was, he talked about himself in the third person quite often, "Bob Dole's not that kind of candidate!" "That sort of thing won't happen on Bob Dole's watch!"

Do some research on the person you're captioning, then try to make it more like they would say it. If you just throw stuff up there that's simply vulgar, it doesn't actually work as well. Bob Dole as a dirty old man is funny (because in reality he's not, he's actually a classy guy), but only if he's saying dirty old man things the way Bob Dole would say them.

What happens is, loads of republicans who were already 100% likely to vote for him put themselves down as 'more likely to vote'.

A rigorous poll would ask FIRST if people were certain before the convention of their vote choice either way, and not include those who were already certain in the more or less likely count.

That's part of it. This weekend, I talked to my uncle, who leans right but isn't a full on teatard.

Regardless of how bad a candidate Romney is, regardless of how bad the Ryan budget will be for the economy, regardless of how destructive VoucherCare will be for our seniors, regardless of how many extremist ideologues Romney may put on the Supreme Court, the fact remains that Obama would need at least a 10-point lead to overcome the tidal wave of Citizen United-funded attack ads that are coming his way.
