Rihanna's collaboration with Maroon 5 a few years ago tanked

That one kinda surprised me. I like that song more than any other Maroon 5 song I've heard.

I stopped when they listed someone calling themself "Ne-Yo". No thanks, I'll just stick to The XX, Beats Antique, and Alabama Shakes.

Got to the second page and saw a still of a black guy and a piano with a name I didn't recognize. Pressed play expecting something awesome. Then I read "Haley Reinhart placed third on American Idol last year," and immediately closed the window. fark the guy that wrote this article.

Nicki Minaj is talented, and hot, and "Stupid Ho" is a hilarious song when you realize it's an "eff you" to Lil Kim. If she's on American Idol, I'll at least check it out for that reason alone.

I was in my 20's from 1998-2008 so i disagree.
But I have 1991 & 1996 in my teens.

You're an idiot. Band X, Y and Z were sellouts. Band (XYZ) + 1 was underrated, but superior to anything you like.

Screeching Weasel's First World Manifesto was pretty killer and since I downloaded it off eMusic in 2012 that makes it a 2012 album to me, dammit. Also, the new Magnetic Fields album is pretty decent. "Girlfriend's Face" is the best revenge fantasy since Shellac's "Prayer To God". Bob Mould's new stuff is also top tier.

I listened to Band (XYZ) back when they were Band (XYZ) - 1. Back when they were cool and before they sold out. Now I listen to Band (XYZ) + 2, but you've probably never heard of them.

As a guy the wrong side of 40 I can say that there is a lot of good music now. The Top 40 isn't really it but if you look back over any top 40 from any period be it 1972, 1982 or 1992 you won't find a ton of high end music on the charts. There's a lot of crap garnished with a few quality tracks. Just like today a lot of people have awful taste.

wait, those were songs that should've been hits? fark that!

my favorites so far (click images):

www.kscopemusic.com
Kind of sounds like Talk Talk by way of Nine Inch Nails (think: The Wretched)

factmag-images.s3.amazonaws.com
Aside from spreading the long tracks across multiple sides, the vinyl tracklist sequencing makes more sense.

www.velocitiesinmusic.com
a Hip Hop update on Suicide and This Heat and something else entirely.

www.magesy.me
pretty much a Comets on Fire reunion

assets1.subpop.com

Beach House are probably the only one's remotely likely to be hits.

From that list, the Foo Fighter's song was okay but meh and that Haley Reinhart girl is good but nothing special. I don't understand the appeal of any of the other stuff.

fusillade762: Rihanna's collaboration with Maroon 5 a few years ago tanked

That one kinda surprised me. I like that song more than any other Maroon 5 song I've heard.

They're also using a strange definition of tanked, given that it has 20 million views on youtube. It's not a great collaboration either... the original was better, strangely enough. This version plods.

I didn't mind Maroon 5 when they were mainly in the business of releasing simple rock ballads like this.

Princess of China hit my head as soon as I read that headline. Interesting that it's in the list.

It should've been a power smash. The kind that radio bangs out every 85 minutes until you wanna punch a nun in the head every time you hear it.

...but they didn't for some reason. Not sure why.

Nobody cares who the eff you is too, she is a horrible artist and there is nothing she has done.that is remotely entertaining.

The Menzingers and Screaming Females albums are so excellent, especially the latter. Marissa shows that you can f*cking rip on the guitar without resorting to soulless, technical prog wankery.

Other albums from this year that I love:
Propagandhi- Failed States
Bob Mould- Silver Age
Baroness- Yellow and Green
Japandroids- Celebration Rock
Fiona Apple- The Idler Wheel
The Men- Open Your Heart

There is more great music in every genre readily available today than at any time in history. If you can't find new music that you love, you aren't trying very hard.
