Well I have to say I am impressed by the leonidas. Seems that there are too many out of shape men who try such things (or God forbid, sailor moon) but he looks reasonable.

You know, if you are going to cosplay classic Trek, the least you could do is shave your non-regulation sh*tty unkempt beard.

Dontcha just hate it when you land in a patch of poison ivys? I know I don't.

buddy was in mid town on Friday night and he saw a girl in a mermaid outfit getting a stern lecture by a cop. she had pasted the hair down over her breasts, but from the back it looked full topless. apparently she was causing some traffic issues hence the cop having to get involved.

don't suppose anyone has a pic of her by any chance? buddy's wife was not keen on him taking any with his phone

Incorrigible Astronaut: Dragon*Con's usually way better than this.

This year the heat and humidity were a LOT worse than usual. Most folks I talked to suited up a couple of days at best and few were costuming after Saturday.

Why bother, you know they are all going to die before the convention is over?

And come on FARK, no "I'm here to trim the hedge" jokes?

I am so disappointed.

I wasn't there this year; I'll make it up to y'all in 2013, promise.

I have four pun-based costumes in the chute with my seamstress, and more in the musing stage.

Ok, I kinda understand the urge for gals to dress-up as gender-farked versions of Captain America and Batman with short skirts and panty-hose... but do guys ever get the urge to dress up as scantily-clad Wonder Woman or Poison Ivy? And if not, why not?

About the quality of link I'd expect from a site named "Geek are Sexy". The costumes as a whole aren't very good at all, but some nice boobs in some of them which I guess is geeky now.

The girls' dresses look good but what's up w/the thigh-high boots on the guys? Or if they're not boots, what's with the straps of fabric on the lower thigh of the pants? That's not regulation.

Sigh... as amusing as that is, here's the real oath:

For hearts long lost and full of fright,
For those alone in Blackest Night,
Accept our ring and join our fight,
Love conquers all with violet light!

Yeah, I'm a geek and typed that from memory..

Couldn't say from the few times I saw her walking around, though in this case personally I wouldn't care either way.

Dunno about that, but there was a huge group of gender swapped Disney princesses out one night. It was...well, it was something.

tchau: Pictures are dissapointing in that article, in a technical standpoint.

Con pictures are always going to look like crap. You'll want something that looks like Boris Vallejo but you always end up with people standing around in a hotel with stupid nametags, glasses, etc. spoiling the shot. At some point maybe someone will get a brain and say "Set your badge and other crap over there and strike a pose in front of this green screen" but I ain't seen it yet.

And in case you're wondering those were not the best costumes by a long shot (with the exception of Big Daddy). There was, for instance, an 8-9 foot tall wookie and... well...

It was all the characters he's killed in his shows protesting his killing of well liked characters, i.e. themselves. I'm only familiar with Firefly and The Avengers out of his body of work myself so I only recognized Wash(was he not in my photo there? he was with the group) and they were short a Book and Coulson, but I'm not sure exactly who the other ones were.

I saw at least 2 male Wonder Women

I saw a guy cosplaying George R. R. Martin.
Not one of his characters, guy was dressed up as the author.
Dumpy fellow with a beard and the funny hat..

You can plan to do it well, I was at D*Con last year and got some decent stuff. All you have to do is some technical stuff right, which is probably the initial point I was going for but didn't write too well.

I didn't go this year though because of personal reasons.

The giant Totoro was pretty awesome.

/Also got some lulz from the WTF reactions some people had as they passed it.

Cats_Lie: Not to be off topic but how do you pronounce cosplay? Hard S or soft S? Long O or short?

Technically it comes from the Japanese word kosupure, and they use a long "o" (maguro, nori, totoro, etc.). But the Japanese word itself is a transliteration of the English words "costume play", so I think in English it's common to pronounce the "cos-" part exactly like in "costume".

I would guess at Dragon-Con only fantasy-based or LARP'ers would count,
but if Fantasy can be at Comic-Con...then Comics can be at Dragon-Con.

I should get down to it next year...still gaming.

Penny (Dr. Horrible)
Tara (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
Coulson (Avengers)
