I'm not sure the Romneys really are that socially conservative. Rich people tend not to be. But they have to pander to their base so for now gayz are teh evil.

That's pretty radical. I don't recall any other TV shows having a Mormon woman officiating at a wedding. The fundies will go nuts!

Yeah but I think lying is also forbidden in the Mormon faith (according to many Church of Latter day saints commercials I saw as a child) and Mitt has no problem with that. I would actually be surprised if Mitt was legitimately opposed to gay marriage. I would also be surprised if he was legitimately for it.

I wouldn't be surprised to see her accept the offer once the election is over and they no longer have to pander.

You think Mitt actually believes the Moron stuff? Just more pandering. That's just his tax shelter, nothing more.

Once Romney gets trounced and all his further electoral prospects are quashed, he'll either hunker down in his bitterness or just stop giving a flying fark.

If it were politically expedient for him, he'd be marrying off "the gays" left and right.

Between the White Horse Prophesy and the Lying for the Lord stuff, we should be very worried.

Also, nice bit of trolling on the part of the Modern Family creator.

Ah - the not-mentioned reality is that lying is a sin, but it gets "fuzzy" when non-believers are concerned. Apparently, God is more concerned that you not lie to another believer FAR MORE than if you were to lie to a non-believer.

gimmegimme: Do you think that Ann Romney thinks that Mitchell and Cameron are really just good friends?

I have the feeling that Ann Romney is the sort that loves "The Gays" as long as they're cutting her hair or planning her parties or camping it up on her TV set, in the same way that wealthy and bigoted women of privilege in the past loved "The Negroes" as long as they were cleaning her house or raising her children for her or jiveing it up on TV for her entertainment. As long as it's possible to maintain a paternalistic detachment from a group of people you see as the help and your inferiors in every way, it's all good. The second the help decides to try and get all uppity and to be seen as your equal if not your better, well, then it's a whole different ball of wax. They need to know their place and stay there.

Yeah, see, I think this is actually worse. There seems to be a kind of whispering campaign going on for Romney, "Mitt doesn't really believe any of those awful things in the GOP platform, so you can totally vote for him."
So, I should vote for Mitt because he has no principles? Because he's willing to subvert whatever principles he does have, in detriment of the country at large, solely to get elected? How is that better?

It's the same strategy that's been used since at least George H. W. Bush. You trot out the candidate's wife to try to con moderate voters into thinking that the candidate himself is more of a centrist than he actually is. With George Sr. it was the, "Barbara Bush is pro choice" bit, with W is was, "Laura has lots of gay friends back in Texas", with McCain it was, "Cindy and Megan support marriage equality", and with Mittens, it's "Ann's favorite show is Modern Family so, by implication, she can't really hate the gays". Never mind the fact that the wives never have any actual influence on those issues, it's just there to make it seem like the candidate isn't really as extreme as they are.
