Yeah, that's pretty retarded. I'm all for being lenient, letting kids learn from their mistakes, and I realize that they're going to pull dumb pranks and whatever. That's what I'd call "kids being kids". But ganging up on someone and punching them is not "kids being kids", it's kids being violent assholes. They apparently need some help figuring out that they don't get to do whatever they want to other people.
