List fails without 50SoG which I have been told is the salvation of the western world.

On a serious note, time to load the kindle

I just read the novella this morning and it's fantastic. Well-deserved award.

Don't worry, Neil Gaiman is part of the darkest timeline.

Point of clarification: that's "furry webcomic", not "furry artist/writer". She writes children's novels now.

NOW GO READ DIGGER!

She goes to Furry Cons, and the paper back of Digger is put out by a furry book publisher.

In fact the same company that puts out Digger (Sofawolf) prints gay furry erotica novels. Their catalog is only furry stuff.

And, just because she went mainstream with childrens books doesn't mean she isn't still a furry.

We're at cross-definitions here, though. She draws furry art, she doesn't wear a fursuit as far as I know. (Leather, yes)

/never met her, followed her online for several years now, bought a few actual pieces of art

Only about maybe 15% of furries own fursuits.

All you have to do to be a furry is call yourself one. And, well, enjoy the art/etc.

HTML fail.

But yeah. Despite common assumptions, the majority of furries don't own (or even plan to own, I'd wager) fursuits. They're expensive and overheating is easy, as well as a pain to lug around, etc etc.

I went to Chicon 7, and had a great time mostly, but I have to say they had the lamest consuite I've ever seen; three days attending, and the only food I ever saw served was farking DIY PBJ sandwiches. Behind a slightly-ajar door I spied the hoard of good snacks and vittles they kept locked up. I contemplated fomenting a takeover.

Of course if you tried to watch the ceremony on the live streaming feed, you had to face The Copyright Police.

2012-09-03 07:19:09 PM
Copyrighted sections being blocked on streaming services is pretty common. I watch a lot of tech conference keynotes online and they always black out the bits where they are playing copyrighted material.

Worldcon was too cheap to do proper streaming and instead relied on an amateur service. Maybe next year they won't muck about and will organize something done properly.

I thought the same thing. But you have to admit she is cute as hell in a "nerd girl" kinda way.

Congrats to all the winners and short listed. Congrats also to the folks on the long list.

The NBC local Chicago news did a 30-second bit on Chicon. All they had was 30 seconds of b-roll of the dealers room, and some banter about trekkies. They had no clue what a worldcon was or what they did, nor did they try to explain anything. The entire piece was derogatory and dismissive, about what fans have come to expect after many years.

Late to the thread; went to the con and didn't have time to check Fark while there, yada yada yada...

I briefly met her in the dealers room. She at least acted like a reasonably normal person. And apparently, writing a webcomic proved to be so stressful that she has no plans to do another one.

Also, self-publishing is really hard and expensive, since you don't get any economies of scale (you might have noticed that the "Girl Genius" collection recently published by Tor is far cheaper than Phil & Kaja Foglio's self-published volumes), so I can't blame her for using a publisher that specializes in furry literature if that's what it took to get Digger into print.

/voted for it
//bought all six volumes in print
///she left the con before I could have them autographed
////not sure if willing to go to a furry con just to get them autographed
