Now that's just oversimplification. They also don't like the President.

I thought the Republican platform could be summarized thus:

I don't know what they have to say
It makes no difference anyway
Whatever it is, I'm against it!
No matter what it is
Or who commenced it
I'm against it!

Your proposition may be good
But let's have one thing understood
Whatever it is, I'm against it!
And even when you've changed it
Or condensed it
I'm against it!

I think the main interest in the Republican Platform isn't just the Democrats who take it apart and justifiably bring attention to it, but by the Republican Base who are slowly starting to realize the Republicans aren't serious about any of the social nonsense they keep bringing up. If you're easily riled by abortion or gun rights or anything like that, eventually that anger has to turn towards the people who bring it to your attention yet do nothing about it. After a while, all that work to keep 'the liberals' from invading your shiatty part of Rural America becomes exhausting. So when the Base is doing their purity tests, this is why. The biggest critics of the Republican Platform are the Base, and they haven't really found their voice when it comes to demanding what they want and figuring out how they've been screwed.

Paul also brought up Madison in a discussion about the Supreme Court's divided decision to uphold President Barack Obama's health care plan.

"I think if James Madison, himself-the father of the Constitution-were here today he would agree with me: the whole damn thing is still unconstitutional!" Paul said.

"Also, how did a slave become President?"

And that is the Democratic platform.

In conclusion, American democracy is currently in a very dysfunctional state.

These conventions bore the hell out of me since they're nothing more than a prolonged infomercial for each party.

That said, did the GOP offer any details of how the plan to tackle the big issues facing this country? Or was it just a bunch of vague stuff that sounded pretty?

Oh come on, they do. Ignore all the causes and get everyone to focus on one symptom, the unemployment numbers.

Nah, he offered some idea what he was going to do. Meanwhile McCain and now Romney are running on the same platform of "Obama sucks but we won't tell you how we're going to be any better."

They actually said that recently. Romney and Ryan mentioned their big plan to improve everything, but said they wouldn't share that plan unless they were elected. What great Americans!

Obammy was really naive in 2008 though. He said he would go to go into Pakistan and get bin laden. The guy is clearly not ready to be President.

Then they watch a hit-piece ad like Swift Boating or Willie Horton and vote against the Democrat because of it.

Something I noticed when I was looking up who would be on my ballot in November: the Republican candidates had websites, but all of them either didn't have an "issues" or "platform" page, or they had one that was just filled with platitudes rather than anything substantial. The Democrats were way more open about what they want to do. I wasn't expecting it to be as universal as it was.
