"I'm actually very intrigued by this," said Joseph J. Lhota, the transportation authority's chairman, before urging riders to treat the subway "as you would treat your home."

Oh, no thanks. I've seen how a lot of these people live. 40% of the city is foreign born, and apparently, where they all come from, there is no such thing as clean.

Best line from the article:

"A fourth, unprintable entry also expressed skepticism about the program."

Bear in mind that this is the publication that refused to render the name "STFU" in print.

So what could that fourth entry possibly have said?

Fissile: Been to a lot of places, and generally speaking, Americans are some of the worst slobs I've seen. Ever ride the NYC subway? Even though trash cans are provided in all stations, a very large percentage of these losers stuff their faces with whatever corn syrup and hydrogenated oil product they call food, and then fling the wrappers/containers/uneaten goo under the seat. Since you can't learn 'em, food should be banned from the subway.

For the same reasons, you can't have public toilets in NYC like you find in civilized cities. And don't get me started on what happen to the recently renovated McCarren Park Pool.

in the words of woody allen, nyc wouldnt want to be a part of any club that would want us for a member.

=========
You're not a real New Yorker unless you tried to drown one of the McCarren lifeguards after you took a dump in the pool.

Hector Remarkable: Officials have described the logic of the program simply: If there is nowhere to discard trash, riders will take it with them - often outside of a station.

That's just...not true.

I submit exhibit A: Waiting for the 6 at Union Square subway stop.
