Good for him. IDK what divorce laws are like in britain, but in a little place called California a woman can smoke meth for the duration of the marriage and still be entitled to half of everything she did nothing but leach off of in the first place.

/seen it.

Dude paid off his bills, paid for upcoming training, bought things for the kids, got a cheap used car, and spent some on slightly frivolous items.

The cheating ex-wife can go lick on some sour grapes.

Yeah, if you're going to blow 100 grand, that's not the most irresponsible way to do it. And if the story is right and she cheated on him, good on him for not letting her get any of it.

"Having being"? And what does "signed off from work" mean? Fired? Quit?

I was really hopeful for a story about a weekend full of coke and hookers. Paying off bill and buying thing for the kids doesn't fit my definition of blowing it. Sounds like something I would do. In other words boring.

Divorce laws: simple fix.
by
Queen Dr Sir Doglover Esq, Wizard (long story)

All marriage applications shall be tied to the collar of a mean bear. Couples shall be required to, in nothing but underwear, remove the application from round the bear's neck.

Divorce applications will be on the other side of the collar.

"signed off" means he had a note from his Doctor saying he wasn't capable of working.

Most states in America, the spouse is only entitled to martial or community property earned prior to the date of separation or filing a petition for separation/divorce/anulment. If you're already split up and you come into money, the spouse isn't entitled to half of that (although it may be taken into consideration when awarding spousal maintenance or alimony).

I wonder how much of this is buried out in the woods somewhere.

I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars - the rest I just squandered.

That works for men, too, you know. Why marry a tweaking gold-digger, when you can be one?

In the US, a winner on a game show has to wait until 90 days after the show airs to collect. Whether that is a law or just policy I do not know. If you win a million dollars on a show and that show never airs, you get nothing.

That seems unlikely. It would render a game fairly meaningless if the production company could just refuse to air it and not pay you.

Here to also say that as ******* ex-husbands go, this one's not such an *******. He's used the money in ways that keep it out of the hands of the lawyers and the taxman and he's benefited the kids.

/Looks like the separation had a lot to do with money troubles. Good on him for _not_ staying in the spend-debt cycle.

In Oregon, child support monies can be sent to a former prisoner of the state, in order for her to blow that money on meth.

Well, more to the point, it's not "making sure she doesn't get a penny". Half that debt she was legally liable for. So she just got a $12,000 windfall there.

The car's gonna be a joint asset in the divorce too. Unless they've got some weird conditions over there that only divide up cash assets. She owns half the car. She can take it as part of her half, you can take it but only by sacrificing something else to her, or sell it and split the money.

If there's any cleverness here, it's in prepaying anything you can- legal fees, education, etc. Or just pissing it away Brewster's Millions style, where you've got no assets left to show for it.

Ain't gettin a penny

A doctors certificate that he has depression and needs some time to recover. His employer cannot fire him during this time, and needs to let him come back to work once he's recovered. It will be for a set period.

I think in the US you can get fired for not covering your mouth when you sneeze or something, since you've decimated all your unions in the name of "freedom".
