We figured this out a long time ago.

Hot chocolate powder + Vanilla Ice Cream in a blender is dang close.

I make homemade ice-cream as a hobby. This is a very basic chocolate ice cream recipe just before it goes into the freezer to set. Basically imbecile ice-cream 101. I have no idea why this is even an article.

Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: SandMann: Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom: SandMann: I'll take a malt from Amy's over a frosty anytime

I love it when people mention local restaurants as though anyone else on the internet has a farking clue what they're talking about.

I bet they're the same people who bring up people you don't know in conversation, "So yeah, I was out of work for a week because Sally died." "Oh.. Sally.. did she work here, or.." "No, that's my sister-in-law." "Oh... well I don't know the names of your sister-in-law, why didn't you just say 'my sister-in-law died'.. you know what, forget it."

Were talking about Ice Cream.

Relax.

I'm talking about people with poor communications skills, and I am relaxed :-P

DJ's fine. Stop being a hipster douche.

If you want to take up even less space and already have a Kitchenaid mixer, you can always get the ice cream maker attachment

That attachment runs $79.99 on Amazon. "unitasker" ice cream makers run in the 30-40 dollar range.

alton brown is a farking fool, a hack and is not a chef.

You shut your pie hole.

Not sure where you come from, but in my world Frosty != ice cream.

If the deffinition of fun at parties is using thickeners in homeade milkshakes and dipping fried root vegetables in frozen dairy desert then count me out.

halB: I don't see the finger. When do I add the finger?

When the Frosty magically turns into chili, then you can add the finger.

The definition of 'fun at parties' includes, but is not limited to, not douching all over the differing opinions and tastes of other people, so...consider yourself counted out.

Dipping fries in it? That is disgusting! Do you also put gravy on your ice cream?

blogs.houstonpress.com

Is that wrong? Should people not do that? Because if I had known that sort of thing was frowned upon...

Inhalien: Yes, they didn't invent it, it's call a malt, whatever.

Having said that, I'm going to try and make one using my ice cream maker and I'll see how it goes.

A malt would cotain malt. Really. Look it up.

teeny: mikefinch: I know every time i eat a milkshake i think "this would go great with fried potato!"

you all make me sick. If you want a think milkshake use more ice cream. Who freaking adds thickener to a milkshake they make at home?

Take a dixie cup of ice cream, put it in a mug, add milk to thin it to your likeing and mash with a spoon till it goes through a straw.

\Fries dipped in milkshake? Talk about taking two beautiful things and turning them into something horrible.
\\No wonder Americans are all obese monsters.

You sound like so much fun! People must *love* inviting you over.

To be completely fair here, you're not quite coming across as a fun party guest either, Ms. Snarkerator.

johne3819: I Mash Grains: FTA: Another key factor in making the perfect Wendy's Frosty at home is to freeze the ice cream maker bowl for 24 to 48 hours.

I'm no science geek, but wouldn't the bowl be frozen within say 6-8 hours or so?

It's not pure water inside, so it takes longer to freeze. That so it takes longer to thaw while making the actual ice cream inside. It's some sort of gel(ire) substance

It's not water it at all. It's some kind of magic food-safe antifreeze. I've been using these for years. It thaws to around the freezing temperature of water in around half an hour when in use. Its purpose is to transfer that cold to the mix while you're running the dasher, and that's how the ice cream is made. It thaws completely in about twice that long.

From my experience, you should freeze it no less than 24 hours, and preferably longer, in a conventional freezer. If you have a deep freezer, twelve hours should do, and it will also work more quickly and take a lot longer to thaw completely. When I was doing this regularly, I just kept it in my (conventional) freezer all the time.

That's my take on it, too. It actually seems pretty low quality for that, too, looking at the recipe.

As a glacier hobbyist, I have to concede, much as it pains me, that a Frosty is indeed ice cream. It's just soft-frozen, low-rent milk chocolate ice cream, with some extra stuff that serves Wendy's operational needs but drags it down. You can make a much better version of it yourself with less hassle and better ingredients. But yes, it is a kind of ice cream.

Yeah, I could do all that... or, you know... just spend $0.99 and buy a damn frosty.

Works well enough for the less than 1 frosty per year I eat.

Fat people problems.
