Being a child of the 70's I remember the Moonies and the Hare Krishnas very well. Years go by, totally forget about them, and then the Washington Post springs up and the Right Rev. starts showing up at these pagents with an arseload of GOP toadies. And THEN someone breaks my heart and informs me about his fishing business and nearly ruins my sushi eating experience. I did get over that, no slime bag mother farking Korean nutjob is gonna stop me from eating my sweet sweet chruchy rolls.

When I was managing that occult bookstore in the 1970s, his damned followers were a f'n pain in the ass. They'd come into the store and corner the customers and try to brainwash them on the spot. I had to start keeping a baseball bat underneath the counter to show them I meant business when I told them to get out of the store.

shivashakti: Moon seems to be a lot more likable cult leader than LRH or Koresh or Jim Jones. But I still didn't care for his political involvement or the Washington Times.

Anyway, R.I.P.
I wonder who will be the next incarnation of Jesus.

Don't forget about the time he bailed out Jerry Falwell when Liberty University was this close to being foreclosed upon.

For that act alone, I hope Satan's got something really special in mind for him.

I hope I'm echoing the sentiments of many, but I haven't read the thread yet:

Good riddance and too bad his "church" and empire can't die with him.

Moon Over Parma (Drew Carey Show)

Moon over Parma bring my love to me tonight.
Guide her to East Lake, underneath your silvery light.
We met in Ashtabula,
She was doing the hula.
I landed her in my radishes and pledged my love that night.

Moon over Parma, won't you bring my love to me?
Shine on the freeway
and guide her AMC.
Get her past those radar Mounties,
Bring her to Lake County,
Moon over Parma, tonight.

Moon over Parma shine on I-271.
We can get together
In the warm light of the sun.
I'm askin' you don't fail.
Get her safely past Lindale,
I can't go to Parma cause my Edsel will not run.

Moon over Parma, where those pink flamingos stand.
I need her kisses
and the soft touch of her hand.
We're goin bowlin,
so don't lose her in Solon.
Moon over Parma, tonight.
I said tonight.

Moon over Parma, tonight.
Moon over Parma,
Moon over Parma,
Moon over Parma, tonight.

I went over to read the Wikipedia article on Moon and it reads like a press release from the Moonie's fan club. I was really hoping to see something more balanced.

2012-09-02 05:33:46 PM
Ah, goodnight moon. Had to watch that about 1200 times, 1200 days in a row. Kid couldn't go to sleep without watching it first.

/Reallly happy he got over that eventually. Its been a few years, but I have the entire damn thing memorized.

Bucky Katt: Dallymo: Sgt Otter: SAD tag over the death of a cult leader? Really?

Didn't there used to be a "News" (not "Newsflash") tag? I was going to use "News" but it didn't seem to be an option and "Newsflash" seemed excessive.

Interesting? Misc? PSA? I panicked.

C'mon, it's too obvious:

I'm sure this will be fixed soon. From his entry on Wikipedia, "Sun Myung Moon (Korean 문선명; born Mun Yong-myeong; 25 February 1920 - 3 September 2012)[1] was a South Korean wanker best known as the founder of the Unification Church." i48.tinypic.com

Isn't this the guy that had a huge helipad made with church money?

Or is that some other moneychanger that Jesus would have beaten if He were here?

YAY! I used to read that book to my daughter when she was a wee tot, i'm surprised it took that many posts for someone to get to it.

The Rev. hasn't had anything to do with the WashTimes in quite awhile. He gave it to his worthless kids to run, and they have been increasingly unwilling to keep pumping money into it (it loses money like a Saudi prince on a Vegas junket). They laid off about 90 percent of the reporting staff, so now it's gone from an influential-with-wingnuts vanity project to just a vanity project.

Forbidden Doughnut: LarryDan43: Please eat more sushi and support his family.

I completely forgot about that connection. Good Call!

Chicago Tribune article

You know, last time I had sushi, I told myself I really needed to stop. it's always disappointing, for what I pay. And yet, the cravings hit, and I must have it.

Now I have a great reason to quit that habit. I had absolutely no idea.

Considering the Washington Times loses tens of millions every year and require Moon to prop it up with his cult money, I wouldn't be surprised if the Washington Times folds within the next 2 years.
